A range of behavioral and contextual factors, including eating and drinking behavior, mood, social context, and other daily activities, can significantly impact an individual's quality of life and overall well-being. Therefore, inferring everyday life aspe ...

Objective. A key challenge of virtual reality (VR) applications is to maintain a reliable human-avatar mapping. Users may lose the sense of controlling (sense of agency), owning (sense of body ownership), or being located (sense of self-location) inside th ...

We present TimberTool (TTool v2.1.1), a software designed for woodworking tasks assisted by augmented reality (AR), emphasizing its essential function of the real-time localization of a tool head’s poses within camera frames. The localization process, a fu ...

With their exponentially rising computational power, digital platforms are heralding a new era of hybrid intelligence. There has recently been much enthusiasm and hype that the Metaverse has the potential to unlock hybrid intelligence. This is premised on ...

Visual affordance segmentation identifies the surfaces of an object an agent can interact with. Common challenges for the identification of affordances are the variety of the geometry and physical properties of these surfaces as well as occlusions. In this ...

Augmented reality in additive fabrication is predominantly applied to the manufacturing of structures from regularly shaped materials. Our work however embraces natural heterogeneity, by focusing on the assembly of irregularly shaped elements such as miner ...

Online platforms have banned ("deplatformed") influencers, communities, and even entire websites to reduce content deemed harmful. Deplatformed users often migrate to alternative platforms, which raises concerns about the effectiveness of deplatforming. He ...

moleculARweb (https://molecularweb.epfl.ch) began as a website for education and outreach in chemistry and structural biology through augmented reality (AR) content that runs in the web browsers of regular devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers. ...

Personalized ranking methods are at the core of many systems that learn to produce recommendations from user feedbacks. Their primary objective is to identify relevant items from very large vocabularies and to assist users in discovering new content. These ...

Metadata-private messaging designs that scale to support millions of users are rigid: they limit users to a single device that is online all the time and transmits on short regular intervals, and require users to choose precisely when each of their buddies ...

Most current software support the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) transfer of Building Information Models (BIMs) to applications enabling Virtual Reality (VR) navigation (BuildingSMART, 2020; Kiviniemi, Tarandi, Karlshøj, Bell, and Karud, 2008; Poljanšek ...

Modern information technologies and human-centric communication systems employ advanced content representations for richer portrayals of the real world. The newly adopted imaging modalities offer additional information cues and permit the depiction of real ...

Augmented/virtual realities (ARs/VRs) promise to revolutionize STEM education. However, most easy-to-use tools are limited to static visualizations, which limits the approachable content, whereas more interactive and dynamic alternatives require costly har ...

Omnidirectional imaging has reached a level of widespread availability driven by recent advances in integrated circuit technology, image sensors, and computer graphics which allow now capturing, rendering and displaying of such type of immersive content in ...

The cameras are invented by imitating the human visual system to capture the scene. The camera technologies have been substantially advanced in recent years. 108 MP resolution with 100x hybrid zoom has become standard features for smartphone flagships. In ...

Introduction Orbitofrontal reality filtering (ORFi) is a memory mechanism that distinguishes whether a thought is relevant to present reality or not. In adults, it is mediated by the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). This region is still not fully developed in p ...

Realtime is an investigation about china’s digital and urban infrastructure, practices and imaginary spaces. Realtime attempts to capture the pace, scale and depth of china’s complex and changing reality. ...

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems have garnered recent widespread attention due to increased accessibility, functionality, and affordability. These systems sense user inputs and typically provide haptic, audio, and visual feedback to ...

Head‐mounted displays for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) allow users to see highly realistic virtual worlds. The wearable haptics that enable feeling and touching these virtual objects are typically bulky, tethered, and provide only low fi ...

Natural human interactions for Mixed Reality Applications are overwhelmingly multimodal: humans communicate intent and instructions via a combination of visual, aural and gestural cues. However, supporting low-latency and accurate comprehension of such mul ...
