Brillouin scattering has been widely exploited for advanced photonics functionalities such as microwave photonics, signal processing, sensing, lasing, and more recently in micro- and nano-photonic waveguides. Most of the works have focused on the opto-acou ...

Owing to their high sensitivity with respect to external measurands, Rayleigh-based distributed optical fiber sensors (DOFS) find their way into applications in many industrial and academic sectors. To further transcend the limit of these sensors in terms ...

This article addresses the problem of simultaneous distributed state estimation, and control of linear systems with linear state feedback, subjected to process, and measurement noise, under the constraints of quantized, and rate-limited network data transm ...

This database is meant to evaluate the performance of denoising and delineation algorithms for PPG signals affected by noise. The noise generator allows applying the algorithms under test to an artificially corrupted reference PPG signal and comparing its ...

The paper considers the problem of estimating the parameters of the compound admittance matrix of three-phase untransposed low-and medium-voltage electrical distribution networks using synchrophasor measurements from phasor measurement units (PMUs). The wo ...

The increasing integration of intermittent renewable generation, especially at the distribution level, necessitates advanced planning and optimisation methodologies contingent on the knowledge of the admittance matrix, capturing the topology and line param ...

In 2016, our research team proposed in an issue of Nature Communications1 the use of multidimensional signal processing, especially image denoising techniques, to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of distributed optical fibre sensors. The benefits of t ...

In this work, we address the design of tightly integrated control, estimation, and allocation algorithms allowing a group of robots to move collectively. For doing so, we leverage a modular framework that allows us to define precisely the needed functional ...

Laser phase noise remains a limiting factor in many experimental settings, including metrology, time-keeping, as well as quantum optics. Hitherto this issue was addressed at low frequencies ranging from well below 1 Hz to maximally 100 kHz. However, a wide ...

High-energy hadron colliders are designed to generate particle collisions within specialized detectors. A higher number of collisions is achieved with high-quality beams of low transverse emittances, meaning a small transverse cross-section, and high inten ...

Functional time series is a temporally ordered sequence of not necessarily independent random curves. While the statistical analysis of such data has been traditionally carried out under the assumption of completely observed functional data, it may well ha ...

The Horizon2020 European project CORTEX aims at developing an innovative core monitoring technique that allows detecting anomalies in nuclear reactors, such as excessive vibrations of core internals, flow blockage, or coolant inlet perturbations. The techn ...

A transverse feedback system can effectively mitigate the emittance growth caused by injection oscillations and machine noise in hadron beams. However, as its action on the beam depends on beam position measurements of finite accuracy, it introduces additi ...

Ion-sensitive field-effect transistors (ISFETs) form a high sensitivity and scalable class of sensors, compatible with advanced complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) processes. Despite many previous demonstrations about their merits as low-power i ...

Sociologists have long been interested in the theoretical possibility of a universal ritual. Despite a growing number of indicators of world society and globalization, there have not been attempts to observe and analyze the international reach of particula ...

In this article an approximated version of the multi-species, non-linear Coulomb collision operator is derived via the use of a truncated moment expansion of the distribution function to compute the Rosenbluth potentials. The evolution of the distribution ...

Nowadays, the internet of things (IoT) nodes have started to spread in various domains of our society, from the industrial to the domestic environment. The remote sensing is one among their fundamental functions. The implementation of a radio detection and ...

Image classification has significantly improved using deep learning. This is mainly due to convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that are capable of learning rich feature extractors from large datasets. However, most deep learning classification methods are ...
