Energy storage systems can improve the performance of home energy management systems and also provide ancillary services in electricity markets. However, the economic and technical insufficiency of individual home storage units, makes employing them ineffi ...

The current global energy landscape is characterized by an increasing demand for affordable and sustainable energy sources, leading to an ever increasing integration of intermittent renewable energy resources into the grid. The intermittent nature of these ...

Cryogenic operation is the backbone of many cutting edge applications. Significant work has been done to characterize and model all cryogenic effects for creating a reliable, robust and efficient cryogenic design across a wide range of technologies and pro ...

Agrivoltaics (Agri-PV, AV) - the joint use of land for the production of agricultural products and energy - has recently been rapidly gaining popularity, as it can significantly increase income per unit of land area. In a broad sense, AV systems can includ ...

In this work, we investigate the fundamental effects contributing to energy storage enhancement in on-chip ferroelectric electrostatic supercapacitors with doped high-k dielectrics. By optimizing energy storage density and efficiency in nanometer-thin stac ...

Specifying utility functions is a key step towards applying the discrete choice framework for understanding the behaviour processes that govern user choices. However, identifying the utility function specifications that best model and explain the observed ...

We demonstrate cryogenic switching devices based on HEMT technology for scalable quantum computer (QC) control and readout signal routing. The switches are implemented in a quantum well network design without metal contacts between gates, and exhibit extre ...

Despite the high number of investments for data-based models in the expansion of Industry 4.0, too little effort has been made to ensure the maintenance of those models. In a data-streaming environment, data-based models are subject to concept drifts. A co ...

Ferroelectricity has made a huge impact on science and technology since Joseph Valasek (then a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota) discovered it in 1920, a little longer than 100 years ago. Whereas Dr. Valasek's original research was motivated by ...

In medical image segmentation, supervised deep networks' success comes at the cost of requiring abundant labeled data. While asking domain experts to annotate only one or a few of the cohort's images is feasible, annotating all available images is impracti ...

An amplitude analysis of flavor-untagged B0s→J/ψp¯p decays is performed using a sample of 797±31 decays reconstructed with the LHCb detector. The data, collected in proton-proton collisions between 2011 and 2018, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9 ...

We demonstrate single-stage thermo-optic Si3N4 interferometers with (46.1 +/- 2.5) dB average extinction ratio over 1460-1640 nm (approximate to 50x of typical devices). We analyze performance requirements for creating reconfigurable high-quality-factor re ...

We observe CW-driven electron-photon interaction using a fiber-integrated high-Q Si3N4 microresonator, enabled by strong resonantly enhanced coupling with the confined optical mode. (C) 2021 The Author(s) ...

We demonstrated a magnetic-free optical isolator for Si3N4 photonics using AlN piezoelectric actuators. Maximum of 10 dB isolation and

This paper presents a procedure for the extension of the Vulnerability Index Method (VIM) to the seismic assessment of hybrid timber-masonry buildings. The research is based on the execution of a detailed numerical study of this peculiar structural typolog ...

Lunar resources is one of the many new putative business models that may transform space logistics. Yet it competes with Earth-based resources, in a complex trade-off involving both tech development & socioeconomic dynamics. This study models the size vs. ...

Optimal control is often used in robotics for planning a trajectory to achieve some desired behavior, as expressed by the cost function. Most works in optimal control focus on finding a single optimal trajectory, which is then typically tracked by another ...

Acidity profoundly affects almost every aspect that shapes the composition of ambient particles and their environmental impact. Thermodynamic analysis of gas-particle composition datasets offers robust estimates of acidity, but they are not available for l ...

It is an annual tradition ever from the start of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC) in 1966 to publish extended manuscripts of a selected set of papers presented at the annual International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). In this Nove ...
