The local undercut defects at the weld toe provide a potential initiation site for fatigue cracks and significantly impact the structure's fatigue strength. The influence of continuous undercut depth on fatigue performance is widely studied, but the resear ...

Rubble stone masonry is a common construction typology of historical city centres and vernacular architecture. While past earthquakes have shown that it is one of the most vulnerable masonry construction typologies, there are few experimental campaigns giv ...

This work introduces a new methodology to predict the fatigue life of viscoelastic materials by considering the creep effect on fatigue behavior under the concurrent effects of stress level, stress ratio, and temperature. The model established based on the ...

The tension–tension fatigue behavior of pseudo-ductile hybrid bonded-bolted double lap basalt composite joints, composed of pseudo-ductile adhesives and adherends with multi-directional fiber architecture, was experimentally investigated. The fatigue damag ...

The effect of fiber architecture, i.e., unidirectional (UD) vs. multi-directional (MD), on the tension-tension fa-tigue behavior of bolted double-lap basalt composite joints was experimentally investigated. The fatigue load-life (F -N) curves of MD and UD ...

A probabilistic model for estimating the fatigue life of composite laminates based on the mean value and standard deviation of the fatigue life is introduced here for predicting the distribution of fatigue life at any stress level for a constant stress rat ...

The objective of this thesis is to develop knowledge and methods to prevent fatigue failure of bridges. The Fatigue Limit State is investigated from both the demand (S) and resistance (R) side. The S-part focuses on reduction of uncertainties through monit ...

This paper introduces a new fatigue life prediction methodology for viscoelastic materials in the tension-tension fatigue loading region. The model was established based on the total amount of energy dissipated during fatigue loading, and offers two main a ...

This paper examines the reliability of welded stud shear connectors for steel-concrete composite bridge girders. A finite element model of a simply-supported bridge was created featuring link connector elements representing the shear studs between beam and ...

The examination of bridges under service loading is key for understanding their condition and thus for their sustainable and efficient use. The need to extend the service duration of existing bridges is increasing, and therefore, efficient tools for examin ...

The objective of this thesis is to improve methods for predicting the fatigue life, multiaxial or not, of mild- and more particularly high-strength steels using local approaches that have the capacity to be applicable to almost any cases, hence the term ge ...

Austenitic stainless steels is used in many components of nuclear power plants, particularly in the pipes of cooling systems. Owing to power transients and to start-ups and shutdowns, these components are subjected to thermo-mechanical loadings (low-cycle ...

A laboratory research program carried out at the University of Waterloo featured the testing of three large-scale steel-concrete composite beam specimens with embedded bolt shear connectors. A detailed assessment of the connector performance was made, faci ...

Although Selective Laser Melting (SLM) currently revolutionizes the way parts are being manufactured, certain process inherent limitations such as accumulation of residual stresses and increased porosity content can lead to a decrease in fatigue life of pr ...

Thin reinforced concrete walls may fail due to out-of-plane instability when subjected to seismic loading. While previous numerical studies on wall instability have focused on the behaviour of members with two layers of vertical reinforcement, this work ad ...

The effect of the stress ratio (R = sigma(min)/sigma(max)) on the fatigue behavior of (+/- 45)(2s) angle-ply glass/epoxy composite laminates was investigated by comparing their mechanical, thermal, and optical properties under the stress ratio of 0.5 with ...

Today, it is widely accepted that fatigue is one of the most common failure mechanisms in structural components, and pure static failure is rarely observed. Engineering structures are subjected to complex mechanical fatigue loading histories, which cause d ...

Angle-ply (±45)2S glass/epoxy composite specimens have been subjected to pure creep and tension-tension constant amplitude fatigue loading interrupted at max by creep intervals lasting for 2 or 48 hours in order to examine the effects of creep loading on ...

This paper describes quasi-static cyclic shear-compression tests on six plastered single-leaf stone masonry walls. Of the six walls, four are tested under different axial load ratios, performing a cyclic load history with two cycles per increasing drift de ...

The strengthening of existing steel structures against high-cycle fatigue (HCF) loading has become one of the most important topics of interest in structural rehabilitation. Apart from the conventional strengthening techniques that incorporate bulky and he ...
