Second-order optical nonlinear processes, such as second harmonic generation, difference-frequency generation, or sum-frequency generation, find numerous applications in laser science, quantum technology, sensing, photonic computing, and many other areas. ...

Entanglement plays a crucial role in the development of quantum-enabled devices. One significant objective is the deterministic creation and distribution of entangled states, achieved, for example, through a mechanical oscillator interacting with confined ...

Mode-locked lasers (MLLs), capable of generating ultrashort coherent pulses, have been instrumental for numerous applications, including optical frequency metrology, eye surgery, machining, additive manufacturing, imaging and spectroscopy. However, commerc ...

Silicon nitride (Si3N4) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) offer significant advantages over traditional silicon photonics, including low loss and superior power handling at optical communication wavelength bands. To facilitate high-density integration an ...

Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are the subject of massive interest due to the range of applications they can provide at a huge scale while building on well-established CMOS technologies. One of the critical parameters defining a technology's maturity ...

A global trend towards miniaturization and multiwavelength performance of nanophotonic devices drives research on novel phenomena, such as bound states in the continuum and Mietronics, as well as surveys for high-refractive index and strongly anisotropic m ...

We demonstrate a compact soliton microcomb light source. The soliton is generated from a Kerr microresonator and amplified by an erbium-implanted gain section integrated on the same photonic chip. We achieved an output power of 7.9 mW at a compact device f ...

Biphoton frequency combs (BFCs) are promising quantum sources for large-scale and high-dimensional quantum information and networking systems. In this context, the spectral purity of individual frequency bins will be critical for realizing quantum networki ...

Deep neural networks trained on physical losses are emerging as promising surrogates for nonlinear numerical solvers. These tools can predict solutions to Maxwell's equations and compute gradients of output fields with respect to the material and geometric ...

Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems have the potential for increasing the efficiency of chemotherapeutics by enhancing the drug accumulation at specific target sites, therebyreducing adverse side effects and mitigating patient acquired resistance. In ...

Strain is a commonly used tool to tune the optoelectronic properties of semiconductors. It is especially effective for transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), which can withstand extreme strain up to 10%. To date, localised strain fields have been applied ...

Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is an earth-abundant semiconductor with promising properties for applications as an absorber in photovoltaics. To beat the 40 years old record power conversion efficiency of solar cells made with this material, a deep understanding o ...

We experimentally observe a self-injection locking regime of the gain-switched laser to a high-Q optical microresonator. We reveal that the comb generated by the gain-switched laser experiences a dramatic reduction of comb-teeth linewidths in this regime. ...

The aim of this work is to determine the varying dielectric constant of a biological nanostructured system via electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) and to show how this method is useful to study natural photonic crystals. We mapped the dielectric constant ...

State-of-the-art organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) used in commercial display technology are complex multilayer structures. In contrast, the light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC) can be built from a single emissive layer sandwiched between two elec ...

We observe CW-driven electron-photon interaction using a fiber-integrated high-Q Si3N4 microresonator, enabled by strong resonantly enhanced coupling with the confined optical mode. (C) 2021 The Author(s) ...
