Noiseless compressive sensing is a two-step setting that allows for undersampling a sparse signal and then reconstructing it without loss of information. The LASSO algorithm, based on l(1) regularization, provides an efficient and robust way to address thi ...

A payment channel network is a blockchain-based overlay mechanism that allows parties to transact more efficiently than directly using the blockchain. These networks are composed of payment channels that carry transactions between pairs of users. Due to it ...

The morphology and structure play a crucial role in shaping the behavior and functionality of both biological and robotic systems. In this work, we are inspired by morphogenesis, a fundamental biological process that encompasses the emergence of organs and ...

Information theory has allowed us to determine the fundamental limit of various communication and algorithmic problems, e.g., the channel coding problem, the compression problem, and the hypothesis testing problem. In this work, we revisit the assumptions ...

The recent rise in interest in point clouds as an imaging modality has motivated standardization groups such as JPEG and MPEG to launch activities aiming at developing compression standards for point clouds. Lossy compression usually introduces visual arti ...

In light of the challenges posed by climate change and the goals of the Paris Agreement, electricity generation is shifting to a more renewable and decentralized pattern, while the operation of systems like buildings is increasingly electrified. This calls ...

Gruber et al. (2022) offered a framework how to explain "Physical time within human time", solving the 'two times problem: Here, I am asking whether such a problem exists at all. To question the question, I will appeal to neurobiological, evolutionary, and ...

This work studies the learning process over social networks under partial and random information sharing. In traditional social learning models, agents exchange full belief information with each other while trying to infer the true state of nature. We stud ...

Given two elliptic curves and the degree of an isogeny between them, finding the isogeny is believed to be a difficult problem—upon which rests the security of nearly any isogeny-based scheme. If, however, to the data above we add information about the beh ...

The sum-of-squares (SOS) approximation method is a technique used in optimization problems to derive lower bounds on the optimal value of an objective function. By representing the objective function as a sum of squares in a feature space, the SOS method t ...

Context. Gaia DR3 has offered the scientific community a remarkable dataset of approximately one million spectra acquired with the radial velocity spectrometer (RVS) in the calcium II triplet region, which is well suited to identify very metal-poor (VMP) s ...

We introduce an algorithm to reconstruct a mesh from discrete samples of a shape's Signed Distance Function (SDF). A simple geometric reinterpretation of the SDF lets us formulate the problem through a point cloud, from which a surface can be extracted wit ...

Cells are the smallest operational units of living systems. Through synthesis of various biomolecules and exchange of signals with the environment, cells tightly regulate their composition to realize a specific functional state. The transformation of a cel ...

Time-sensitive networks provide worst-case guarantees for applications in domains such as the automobile, automation, avionics, and the space industries. A violation of these guarantees can cause considerable financial loss and serious damage to human live ...

We studied the influence of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) on the air masses sampled at the mountaintop Hellenic Atmospheric Aerosol and Climate Change station ((HAC) 2 ) at Mount Helmos (Greece) during the Cloud-AerosoL InteractionS in the Helmos back ...

This work is concerned with the computation of the action of a matrix function f(A), such as the matrix exponential or the matrix square root, on a vector b. For a general matrix A, this can be done by computing the compression of A onto a suitable Krylov ...

This work addresses the problem of sharing partial information within social learning strategies. In social learning, agents solve a distributed multiple hypothesis testing problem by performing two operations at each instant: first, agents incorporate inf ...

In 1970, Furth and Yoshikawa (1970 Phys. Fluids 13 2593-6) introduced the scalings of adiabatic plasma compression. Basically, if the shape of the external plasma boundary and the aspect ratio are preserved during the compression, then the density, kinetic ...

The scale and pervasiveness of the Internet make it a pillar of planetary communication, industry and economy, as well as a fundamental medium for public discourse and democratic engagement. In stark contrast with the Internet's decentralized infrastructur ...

The use of point clouds as an imaging modality has been rapidly growing, motivating research on compression methods to enable efficient transmission and storage for many applications. While compression standards relying on conven- tional techniques such as ...
