Dendritic cells (DCs) are key regulators of immune responses, presenting antigen-derived peptides on major histocompatibility complexes (pMHCs) to T cells for recognition via their T cell receptors (TCRs). Despite the weak intrinsic affinity of the TCR-pMH ...

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is overexpressed on the surface of cancerous prostate cells both in primary tumors and in metastases. Small organic ligands targeting PSMA have been broadly and successfully use ...

The advent of immunotherapy, such as immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and adoptive transfer of cytotoxic lymphocytes, has transformed the clinical care of cancer. However, a significant proportion of patients are resistant to immunotherapy or experience re ...

Cysteine cathepsins proteases are enzymes that play essential physiological roles, but their activity is also associated to different aspects of cancer progression and to the development of other diseases. Therefore, cysteine cathepsins are relevant and pr ...

Dendritic cells (DCs) are specialized myeloid cells with the ability to uptake, process, and present antigens to T lymphocytes. They also generate cytokine and chemokine gradients that regulate immune cell trafficking, activation, and function. Monocyte-de ...

Inflammation stands as a dynamic and intricate biological process, promoting vital defence mechanisms against harmful stimuli, including infections and injuries, to drive pathogen clearance and healing. On one hand, these responses can manifest acutely and ...

The transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) family member activin A (hereafter Activin-A) is overexpressed in many cancer types, often correlating with cancer-associated cachexia and poor prognosis. Activin-A secretion by melanoma cells indirectly imped ...

Background aims: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of blindness in elderly patients within developed countries, affecting more than 190 million worldwide. In AMD, the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell layer progressively d ...

The present invention relates generally to the field of anti-cancer therapy, in particular to the use of adoptive T cell transfer therapy for treating cancer, in particular sold tumors. More specifically, the present invention relates to immune cells compr ...

Cancer immunotherapy has become an attractive strategy among different therapeutic modalities over the past few years and has showed great success in the clinic. However, there are many outstanding challenges hindering the current immunotherapies. In my Ph ...

Recent breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy, exemplified by immune checkpoint blockade and CAR T cell therapy, have achieved remarkable clinical success. However, the majority of cancer patients fail to respond to immunotherapy or suffer from relapse. Nan ...

The use of CAR technologies has revolutionized cancer treatment. Their unprecedented efficacy against B cell malignancies has opened the doors for a lot of excitement and research in the field. These synthetic receptors are composed of an antigen recogniti ...

CAR-T cell therapy has shown remarkable success in treating hematopoietic malignancies, but its efficacy in solid tumors is limited by T cell dysfunction, including exhaustion and senescence. In this study, we designed metabolically armored CAR-T cells to ...

Cancer immunotherapy is the science of boosting the immune response of patients to fight cancer. Recent advances have brought up treatments with huge success in the clinic. Patients with ad-vanced-stage cancers were long-term cured through checkpoint inhib ...

Chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) are synthetic, transmembrane proteins that trigger immune cell signaling following their engagement. They have been first utilized in T cells and later in natural killer (NK) cells to redirect their cytotoxicity toward a s ...

Multicellular organisms require very well organized and finely balanced cell-cell communication, adhesion and coordination to ensure the organisms homeostasis. These functions rely on specialized receptors placed at the cells membrane whose binding to thei ...

Synthetic messenger RNA (mRNA)-based therapeutics have emerged as promising candidates for the prevention and treatment of a wide range of diseases and disorders. mRNA possesses notable advantages, including exceptional safety, the capacity to replace vari ...

Dendritic cells (DCs) regulate immune priming by expressing programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) and PD-L2, which interact with the inhibitory receptor PD-1 on activated T cells. PD-1 signaling regulates T cell effector functions and limits autoimmunity. Tumo ...

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most frequent and highly malignant form of brain cancer. New therapeutic regimens are urgently needed as GBM patients present with a minimal response to currently-approved therapies. The goal of this project is to identify new the ...

The understanding of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions via receptor and ligand binding relies on our ability to study the very first events of their contact. Of particular interest is the interaction between a T cell receptor and its cognate peptide-m ...
