Peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing may foster sustainability synergistically by saving resources, reducing costs and promoting satisfaction of consumer needs and social connectivity. A survey of Swiss and Swedish consumers (N = 1522) was conducted to analyze drive ...

Peer-to-peer (p2p) networks are not independent of their peers, and the network efficiency depends on peers contributing resources. Because shared resources are not free, this contribution must be rewarded. Peers across the network may share computation po ...

Internet blackouts are challenging environments for anonymity and censorship resistance. Existing popular anonymity networks (e.g., Freenet, I2P, Tor) rely on Internet connectivity to function, making them impracticable during such blackouts. In such a set ...

The Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) antennas are a crucial component of small satellites, as their in-orbit attitude is not always well-defined. The TT&C antenna design for a CubeSat is an even more challenging task, considering the volume restricti ...

Over the past few decades, incessant growth of Internet networking traffic and High-Performance Computing (HPC) has led to a tremendous demand for data bandwidth. Digital communication technologies combined with advanced integrated circuit scaling trends h ...

In multiview applications, camera views can be used as reference views to synthesize additional virtual viewpoints, allowing users to freely navigate within a 3D scene. However, bandwidth constraints may restrict the number of reference views sent to clien ...

A method to optimize the communication on a channel between an access point and at least one client device, said channel being characterized by a center frequency and a bandwidth, comprises: establishing a connection on a first channel according to a first ...

In free viewpoint applications, the images are cap- tured by an array of cameras that acquire a scene of interest from different perspectives. Any intermediate viewpoint not included in the camera array can be virtually synthesized by the decoder, at a qua ...

In this paper, we propose a distributed rate allocation algorithm for delay minimal data delivery in overlay networks where multiple sources compete simultaneously for the available network resources. In order to efficiently utilize the network resources, ...

Complex networks exist for a number of purposes. The neural, metabolic and food networks ensure our survival, while the social, economic, transportation and communication networks allow us to prosper. Independently of the purposes and particularities of th ...

In this paper, we present a pull-based dissemination protocol for efficient distribution of scalable video content in overlay peer-to-peer networks with mesh structures. The proposed protocol employs prioritized network coding, where the network coded pack ...

Many structured overlay networks rely on a ring invariant as a core network connectivity element. The responsibility ranges of the participating peers and navigability principles (greedy routing) heavily depend on the ring structure. For correctness guaran ...

Peer-to-peer (P2P) architectures have emerged as a popular paradigm to support the dynamic and scalable nature of distributed systems. This is particularly relevant today, given the tremendous increase in the intensity of information exchanged over the Int ...

A major challenge for real-time streaming overlays is to distribute high bit-rate streams with uninterrupted playback. Hosts usually have sufficient inbound bandwidth to support streaming, but due to the prevalence of asymmetric links in broadband networks ...

Peer-to-peer paradigm is increasingly employed for organizing distributed resources for various applications, e.g. content distribution, open storage grid etc. In open environments, even when proper access control mechanisms supervise the access to the res ...

In this paper, we present a query-driven indexing/retrieval strategy for efficient full text retrieval from large document collections distributed within a structured P2P network. Our indexing strategy is based on two important properties: (1) the generate ...

In sufficiently large heterogeneous overlays message loss and delays are likely to occur. This has a significant impact on overlay routing, especially on longer paths. The existing solutions to this problem rely on message redundancy to mask the loss and d ...

The Small-World phenomenon, well known under the phrase "six degrees of separation", has been for a long time under the spotlight of investigation. The fact that our social network is closely-knitted and that any two people are linked by a short chain of a ...

Present application specific embedded systems tend to choose instruction set extensions (ISEs) based on limitations imposed by the available data bandwidth to custom functional units (CFUs). Adoption of the optimal ISE for an application would, in many cas ...

We present a query-driven algorithm for the distributed indexing of large document collections within structured P2P networks. To cope with bandwidth consumption that has been identified as the major problem for the standard P2P approach with single term i ...
