This work presents a new computational optimization framework for the robust control of parks of Wave Energy Converters (WEC) in irregular waves. The power of WEC parks is maximized with respect to the individual control damping and stiffness coefficients ...

We investigate the long-time properties of the two-dimensional inviscid Boussinesq equations near a stably stratified Couette flow, for an initial Gevrey perturbation of size & epsilon;. Under the classical Miles-Howard stability condition on the Richardso ...

Many problems in robotics are fundamentally problems of geometry, which have led to an increased research effort in geometric methods for robotics in recent years. The results were algorithms using the various frameworks of screw theory, Lie algebra, and d ...

This paper addresses the complexity reduction of stochastic homogenization of a class of random materials for a stationary diffusion equation. A cost-efficient approximation of the correctors is obtained using a method designed to exploit quasi-periodicity ...

We investigate the existence and regularity of the local times of the solution to a linear system of stochastic wave equations driven by a Gaussian noise that is fractional in time and colored in space. Using Fourier analytic methods, we establish strong l ...

The rapid uptake of natural gas-fired units in energy systems poses significant challenges in coordinating the electricity and gas systems. Besides, the uncertainty caused by integrated renewable energy such as wind power raises more requirements on the ro ...

The seminal work of DiPerna and Lions (Invent Math 98(3):511-547, 1989) guarantees the existence and uniqueness of regular Lagrangian flows for Sobolev vector fields. The latter is a suitable selection of trajectories of the related ODE satisfying addition ...

Adjoint-based sensitivity analysis is routinely used today to assess efficiently the effect of open-loop control on the linear stability properties of unstable flows. Sensitivity maps identify regions where small-amplitude control is the most effective, i. ...

We show that the imaginary multiplicative chaos exp(i beta Gamma) determines the gradient of the underlying field Gamma for all log-correlated Gaussian fields with covariance of the form -log|x-y|+g(x,y) with mild regularity conditions on g, for all d >= 2 ...

Systolic Anterior Motion (SAM) of the mitral valve - often associated with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) - is a cardiac pathology in which a functional subaortic stenosis is induced during systole by the mitral leaflets partially obstructi ...

Perturbations to an ecosystem's steady state can trigger transient responses of great ecological relevance. Asymptotic stability determines whether a generic perturbation will fade out in the long run, but falls short of characterizing the dynamics imme ...

We propose a distributed upper confidence bound approach, DUCT, for solving distributed constraint optimization problems. We compare four variants of this approach with a baseline random sampling algorithm, as well as other complete and incomplete algorith ...

The steady advances of computational methods make model-based optimization an increasingly attractive method for process improvement. Unfortunately, the available models are often inaccurate. The traditional remedy is to update the model parameters, but th ...

We propose new regularization models to solve inverse problems encountered in biomedical imaging applications. In formulating mathematical schemes, we base our approach on the sparse signal processing principles that have emerged as a central paradigm in t ...
