Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has long been recognized as a potent tool for capturing high-resolution topographical data across a wide spectrum of samples. However, this superior spatial imaging capability has traditionally been counterbalanced by its rela ...

Compliant vascular grafts for implantation in the vasculature are provided. The compliant vascular grafts are designed to expand longitudinally and radially within a blood vessel, such as an artery, and is expected to be particularly well suited for treati ...

Microscopy is one of the essential tools to quantify and advance our understanding of living systems. Modern digital microscopes enable measurements at unprecedented spatiotemporal scale, so automated processing methods are required to complete tasks such ...

Application of revolve sphere levelling (RSL) as a practical and effective image processing tool for enhancing scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) images of graphene atomic lattices is presented. Low-cost, ambient, and non-invasive STM methods overcome li ...

Background and Objective: Computational models of the cardiovascular system allow for a detailed and quantitative investigation of both physiological and pathological conditions, thanks to their ability to combine clinical-possibly patient-specific-data wi ...

Cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-CMs) are powerful in vitro models to study the mechanisms underlying cardiomyopathies and cardiotoxicity. Quantification of the contractile function in single hiPSC-CMs at high-through ...

Fluorescence confocal laser-scanning microscopy (LSM) is one of the most popular tools for life science research. This popularity is expected to grow thanks to single-photon array detectors tailored for LSM. These detectors offer unique single-photon spati ...

Quantum ghost imaging can be an important tool in making optical measurements. One of the most useful aspects of ghost imaging is the unique ability to correlate two sets of independently collected information. We aim to use the principles of ghost imaging ...

Aortic diseases are characterized by dire prognosis and inadequate diagnosis, owing to their insidious yet lethal nature. Aortopathies, namely aortic aneurysms and dissections, along with certain congenital diseases, might necessitate surgical replacement ...

This review summarizes the existing techniques and methods used to generate synthetic contrasts from magnetic resonance imaging data focusing on musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging. To that end, the different approaches were categorized into 3 diffe ...

Moving from association to causal analysis of neuroimaging data is crucial to advance our understanding of brain function. The arrow-of-time (AoT), that is, the known asymmetric nature of the passage of time, is the bedrock of causal structures shaping phy ...

Microscopic visualisation of optically transparent samples has been a topic of interest for several decades. Features such as density or chemical composition can influence the optical phase of transmitted light, and phase contrast can reveal these structur ...

Dielectric elastomer actuator augmented aorta (DEA) represents a novel approach with high potential for assisting a failing heart. The soft tubular device replaces a section of the aorta and increases its diameter when activated. The hemodynamic interactio ...

The accurate identification of the three-dimensional quantitative shape of a cell nucleus is now possible without fluorescent staining by applying computational segmentation to refractive index tomograms recorded in the flow cytometry mode. ...

The magnetic force microscope (MFM) is an established experimental tool for imaging stray fields with high spatial resolution and sensitivity. The MFM contrast can however contain contributions from the sample topography, variations in the surface Kelvin p ...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable tool for studying subcutaneous implants in rodents, providing non-invasive insight into biomaterial conformability and longitudinal characterization. However, considerable variability in existing image analysi ...

Low-energy electron holography (LEEH) is one of the few techniques capable of imaging large and complex three-dimensional molecules, such as proteins, on the single molecule level at subnanometer resolution. During the imaging process, the structural infor ...

ObjectiveWall shear stress (WSS) and its derived spatiotemporal parameters have proven to play a major role on intracranial aneurysms (IAs) growth and rupture. This study aims to demonstrate how ultra-high field (UHF) 7 T phase contrast magnetic resonance ...

Fatigue damage in materials results in localized strain at the microstructural level. In many engineering components of the cooling circuits of nuclear power plants, where austenitic steels are used, the material experiences multiaxial cyclic loading, eith ...

We introduce a lock-in method to increase the phase contrast in incoherent Differential Phase Contrast (DPC) imaging. The use of a smart pixel detector with in-pixel signal demodulation, paired with synchronized illumination, provides the basis of a bit-ef ...
