This PhD thesis presents the experimental study on electron cloud (EC) and synchrotron radiation (SR) phenomena affecting the LHC storage ring performance. These phenomena are one of the major issues of the LHC storage ring, generating beam instabilities, ...

Landau damping of coherent modes is strongly dependent on the exact shape of the particle bunches. One often assumes that the transverse distributions in high-energy hadron colliders can be approximated by Gaussian distributions, in acceptable agreement wi ...

Transverse collective instabilities induced by the beam-coupling impedance of the accelerator structure lead to beam quality degradation and pose a major limitation to the machine performance. Landau damping, a powerful stabilising mechanism that can be em ...

The Future Circular Collider for hadrons (FCC-hh) is a proposed high-energy frontier particle accelerator, which would be built in a new ~100 km circumference tunnel and would enable proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 100 TeV. The basel ...

Calcium carbonate is a model system to investigate the mechanism of solid formation by precipitation from solutions, and it is often considered in the debated classical and nonclassical nucleation mechanism. Despite the great scientific relevance of calciu ...

The Search for Hidden Particles (SHiP) Collaboration has shown that the CERN SPS accelerator with its 400 GeV/c proton beam offers a unique opportunity to explore the Hidden Sector [1-3]. The proposed experiment is an intensity frontier experiment which is ...

The Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) at CERN is the injector of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle collider. The High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project is a major step forward in the improvement of the LHC performances and it require ...

Cavitation bubbles, when correctly tuned, may provide interesting mechanical and chemical effects to their surroundings owing to their violent collapse. Such an event may produce high-speed liquid jetting, extreme heating, as well as pressures of thousands ...

The present paper focuses on the simulation of the high-velocity impact of a projectile impacting on a water-jet, causing the onset, development and collapse of cavitation. The simulation of the fluid motion is carried out using an explicit, compressible, ...

The beam-gas vertex (BGV) detector is an innovative instrument measuring noninvasively the transverse beam size in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using reconstructed tracks from beam-gas interactions. The BGV detector was installed in 2016 as part of the ...
