DC shipboard power systems have been connsidered as a promising solution for stricter environmental regulations on ships due to their main benefits in fuel savings with variable speed engines and easy integration of energy storage systems. In order to empl ...

The Large Hadron Collider experiments at CERN will use power distribution schemes relying on integrated buck DC/DC converters. Due to the radiation-hardness requirements, the devices used for the development of such converters will have a voltage rating wh ...

In multiwinding transformers, different geometry of the individual windings leads to unbalanced leakage flux paths. The unbalance affects the behavior of the power electronic converters, where these transformers are used. This paper proposes an approach to ...

In modern automated assembly lines, part feeders play an important role to separate and sort parts. Agility and flexibility are required to achieve a good yield for different types of parts. The common working principle is to vibrate a working plate driven ...

One-way electric vehicle carsharing systems are receiving increasing attention due to their mobility, environmental, and societal benefits. One of the major issues faced by the operators of these systems is the optimization of the relocation operations of ...

Internal combustion engines are the most applied energy converters in passenger cars. In order to increase their efficiency, energy integration techniques are used to recover waste heat. An adapted methodology is required to design the organic Rankine cycl ...

Electrodynamic Bearings (EDBs) are a kind of passive magnetic bearings that exploits the interaction between the induced eddy currents in a conductor and a magnetic field to provide re-storing forces. They have been regarded as an appealing alternative to ...

The improvement of the efficiency of vehicle energy systems promotes an active search to find innovative solutions during the design process. Engineers can use computer-aided processes to find automatically the best design solutions. This kind of approach ...

We report the fabrication, modeling and characterization of novel microwave tunable capacitors based on the metal-insulator transition (MIT) of Vanadium Dioxide (VO2) as a future replacement solution for microelectromechanical capacitive switches. We prese ...

Today, there is a long-term trend towards bi-directional and flexible charger functions for not only drawing current from the grid but also feeding excess energy back into it. The Configurable Modular Multilevel Converter (CMMC) offers a large flexibility ...
