Beta-dicalcium silicate (beta-C2S), one of the main phases in Portland cement clinker, offers some promising overviews regarding CO2 and energy savings potential compared to alite. Understanding the crystalline structure and reactive sites on beta-C2S surf ...

Carbon monoxide (CO) is the second most abundant identified product of dissolved organic matter (DOM) photodegradation after CO2, but its formation mechanism remains unknown. Previous work showed that aqueous photodegradation of methoxy-substituted aromati ...

This paper contains an investigation on the potential decrease of seismic vulnerability related to building replacements for the cities of Sion and Martigny in Switzerland. Those two cities were identified for the present research based on the accuracy of ...

Machine intelligence greatly impacts almost all domains of our societies. It is profoundly changing the field of mechanical engineering with new technical possibilities and processes. The education of future engineers also needs to adapt in terms of techni ...

The goal of this paper is to further elaborate a new concept for value creation by decision support services in industrial service ecosystems using digital twins and to apply it to an extended case study. The aim of the original model was to design and int ...

Spectral-based graph neural networks (SGNNs) have been attracting increasing attention in graph representation learning. However, existing SGNNs are limited in implementing graph filters with rigid transforms and cannot adapt to signals residing on graphs ...

Vibration monitoring plays a key role in numerous applications, including machinerypredictive maintenance, shock detection, space applications, packaging-integrity monitoring andmining. Here, we investigate mechanical nonlinearities inherently present in s ...

Impressive Imidacloprid (IMD) degradation and bacterial inactivation were attained through the photocatalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) via a novel, N-doped MgO@Fe3O4, under visible light. After complete characterization (XPS, XRD, FT-IR, FE-SE ...

The challenge of defining and cataloging the building blocks of the brain requires a standardized approach to naming neurons and organizing knowledge about their properties. The US Brain Initiative Cell Census Network, Human Cell Atlas, Blue Brain Project, ...

Thermally driven flows in fractures play a key role in enhancing the heat transfer and fluid mixing across the Earth’s lithosphere. Yet the energy pathways in such confined environments have not been characterised. Building on Letelier et al. (J. Fluid Mec ...

Tree-related microhabitats (TreMs) have been identified as key features for forest-dwelling taxa and are often employed as measures for biodiversity conservation in integrative forest management. However, managing forests to ensure an uninterrupted resourc ...

Ever since the links between the development of new technologies and economic growth became evident, researchers have attempted to study how the creation of knowledge fosters progress. If pushing the frontier of knowledge has an impact on progress and well ...

The time-resolved physical spectrum of luminescence is theoretically studied for a standard cavity quantum electrodynamics system. In contrast to the power spectrum for the steady state, the correlation functions up to the present time are crucial for the ...

Cost management and toxic waste generation are two key issues that must be addressed before the commercialization of perovskite optoelectronic devices. We report a ground-breaking strategy for eco-friendly and cost-effective fabrication of highly efficient ...

After ratcheting attracted attention mostly due to practical real-world protocols, recently a line of work studied ratcheting as a primitive from a theoretic point of view. Literature in this line, pursuing the strongest security of ratcheting one can hope ...

The current information landscape is characterised by a vast amount of relatively semantically homogeneous, when observed in isolation, data silos that are, however, drastically semantically fragmented when considered as a whole. Within each data silo, inf ...

Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) provides an important capability for managing the complexities of system development. MBSE empowers the formalism of system architectures for supporting model-based requirement elicitation, specification, design, deve ...

An in-depth understanding of the growth mechanism of nanocrystals (NCs) is of great significance for shape control of colloidal semiconductor nanostructures. In this study, we elucidate the formation mechanism of anisotropic CdSe NCs by systematically inve ...

Since the complex engineered system involves multi-disciplinary, co-simulation is the key technique to the performance analysis. However, the co-simulation is hindered by heterogeneous sub-systems and ununified environments. In this paper, a Cognitive Twin ...

In this work we propose and experimentally validate a relaxation spiking oscillator architecture with ultra-high tuning range (higher than 400%, from 5KHz to more than 25kHz when the control voltage is varied from 2.5 to 5V) that exploits the reversible me ...
