Macrocycles have raised much interest in the pharmaceutical industry due to their ability to bind challenging targets while often still being able to cross membranes to reach intracellular proteins. However, the development of macrocyclic ligands to new di ...

Alkynes are found in a multitude of natural or synthetic bioactive compounds. In addition to the capacity of these chemical motifs to impact the physicochemical properties of a molecule of interest, the well-established reactivity of alkynes makes them ide ...

Ethynylbenziodoxol(on)e (EBX) cyclic hypervalent iodine reagents have become popular reagents for the alkynylation of radicals and nucleophiles, but only offer limited possibilities for further structure and reactivity fine-tuning. Herein, the synthesis of ...

Ethynylbenziodoxolones (EBXs) are commonly encountered reagents for the electrophilic alkynylation of nucleophiles. Herein, we report a one-pot, two-step process for EBX generation and their direct application in substrate functionalization. Our approach e ...

Aliphatic alkynes and nitriles are privileged motifs in organic chemistry. Therefore, alkynes and nitriles have played a central role for the exploration and development of novel strategies to forge C-C bonds in efficient manner. They are broadly used as v ...

Enamides and enol ethers are valuable building blocks in synthetic chemistry, yet their stereoselective synthesis can be challenging. Herein, we report a new stereoselective synthesis of vinyl, aryl, alkynyl, alkyl and thio-substituted Z-enamides and enol ...

The thesis describes a simple approach for N-formylation of amines with CO2 and hydrosilane reducing agents, the use of organic salts as N-formylation catalysts, their physical properties required for high catalytic activity and their role in the catalytic ...

The one-step synthesis of the bench-stable hypervalent iodine reagents IndoleBX and PyrroleBX using mild Lewis acid catalyzed conditions is reported. The new reagents are stable up to 150 degrees C and were applied in the C-H arylation of unactivated arene ...

Alkene functionality can be found in the majority of natural products, drugs, catalysts and organic materials. Therefore, methods of C-C double bond formation constitute a cornerstone of organic synthesis. Selective formation of either (Z)- or (E)-isomer i ...

This dissertation is devoted to the development of well-defined nickel complexes as catalysts for cross coupling processes of alkyl electrophiles. In chapter one, we summarize recent cross coupling methodologies of alkyl electrophiles using nickel based ca ...

The aim of the project was to investigate iron bis(oxazolinylphenyl)amino (bopa) pincer complexes as pre-catalysts in the enantioselective Kumada cross-coupling of non-activated alkyl halides with aryl Grignard reagents. From this preliminary cross-couplin ...

The chemical activation of nitrous oxide (N2O) can be achieved by organocalcium, organosodium, and organolithium compounds. Grignard reagents, on the other hand, are believed to be inert. We demonstrate that this generalization is not correct. Some aliphat ...

Cross-coupling reactions of non-activated alkyl halides are potentially useful chemical transformations. At the same time, however, they are challenging due to a series of unproductive side reactions. Recently, significant progress has been made to overcom ...

Living cells maintain a steady state of biochemical reaction rates by exchanging energy and matter with the environment. These exchanges usually do not occur in in vitro systems, which consequently go to chemical equilibrium. This in turn has severely cons ...

Transition-metal-catalyzed C-C coupling reactions have been extensively studied in the past three decades. These reactions have become invaluable to fundamental research and industrial applications, because they can be used construct complicated molecules ...

Carbon-carbon bond forming reactions are among the most important and useful methods for organic synthesis. During the last years, significant progress has been made in this field. Whereas many catalysts were developed for the coupling of aryl, alkenyl, an ...

A structure–activity study was carried out for Ni catalyzed alkyl–alkyl Kumada-type cross coupling reactions. A series of new nickel(II) complexes including those with tridentate pincer bis(amino)amide ligands (RN2N) and those with bidentate mixed amino-am ...

Alk-2-enesulfonyl chlorides 1-4 were synthesized by the BCl3-promoted ene reaction of alkenes with SO2. These sulfonyl chlorides were then used as electrophilic partners in iron-catalyzed desulfinylative cross-coupling reactions with different Grignard rea ...

A nickel(II) pincer complex [(MeNN2)NiCl] (1) catalyzes Kumada−Corriu−Tamao cross coupling of nonactivated alkyl halides with aryl and heteroaryl Grignard reagents. The coupling of octyl bromide with phenylmagnesium chloride was used as a test reaction. Us ...

The goal of this thesis is to develop new carbon-carbon bond forming reactions using inexpensive and simple coupling partners like aryl halides (pseudohalides), sulfonyl derivatives, Grignard reagents, alkenes and alkynes with metal catalysis, preferably u ...
