The paper addresses the research question of whether the electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) technique can be used to estimate the propagation speed of a signal on power cables. This value changes in the long term due to ageing of the cable insulation and in the short term due to the cable temperature variation. A first numerical investigation of the EMTR effectiveness in estimating the propagation speed in a simple cable system is described showing that EMTR is a promising technique to be used also for the monitoring of power cable temperature. Future research will be directed to implementation of the methodology in more complex networks.
