Based on 4.5 fb(-1) of ethorne- collision data accumulated at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, the decay Lambda(+)(c) -> nK(S)(0)pi(+)pi(0) is observed for the first time with a significance of 9.2 sigma. Th ...

To understand how daylight gives shape and life to architectural spaces, whether existing or imagined, requires quantifying its dynamism and energy. Maintaining these details presents a challenge to simulation and analysis methods that flatten data into di ...

Scattering wave systems that are periodically modulated in time offer many new degrees of freedom to control waves in both the spatial and frequency domains. Such systems, albeit linear, do not conserve frequency and require the adaptation of the usual the ...

In a collaboration between Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and CEA, in the fall of 2020, the experimental Programme d’Étude en Transmission de l’Acier Lourd et ses Eléments (PETALE) was successfully carried out in the CROCUS reactor of EPFL ...

Numerical simulations have become one of the key tools used by theorists in all the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. The development of modern tools that target the largest existing computing systems and exploit state-of-the-art numerical methods and ...

Stroke, a major global health concern often rooted in cardiac dynamics, demands precise risk evaluation for targeted intervention. Current risk models, like the CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepa ...

With the advent of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO), scientists will be able to directly observe the Epoch of Reionization by mapping the distribution of neutral hydrogen at different redshifts. While physically motivated results can be simula ...

We present a validation of a three-dimensional, two-fluid simulation of plasma turbulence in the TJ-K stellarator, a low temperature plasma experiment ideally suited for turbulence measurements. The simulation is carried out by the GBS code, recently adapt ...

At CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), proton and heavy-ion beams are accelerated to multi-TeV energies to be collided for the needs of the scientific community around the world. The total stored beam energy of tens to hundreds ofMJ creates potential threa ...

Machine learning is often cited as a new paradigm in control theory, but is also often viewed as empirical and less intuitive for students than classical model-based methods. This is particularly the case for reinforcement learning, an approach that does n ...

Monitoring humidity and temperature in silicon-based high-energy physics (HEP) detectors is indispensable but challenging due to space restrictions, radiation, sub-zero temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. This manuscript presents humidity and tempera ...

This thesis investigates the magnetic properties of single atoms and molecules adsorbed on thin magnesium oxide decoupling layers, grown on a silver single crystal. To address these systems experimentally, we use a low temperature scanning tunneling micros ...

To build biophysically detailed models of brain cells, circuits, and regions, a data-driven approach is increasingly being adopted. This helps to obtain a simulated activity that reproduces the experimentally recorded neural dynamics as faithfully as possi ...

The visible camera system EDICAM (Event Detection Intelligent Camera), recently installed on JT-60SA, is simulated to assess whether it can be used for measuring synchrotron radiation from relativistic runaway electrons. In this simulation, the SOFT synthe ...

We describe a novel method to compute the components of dynamo tensors from direct magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations. Our method relies upon an extension and generalization of the standard H & ouml;gbom CLEAN algorithm widely used in radio astronomy to ...

Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is of fundamental importance in photonics and underpins countless of its applications: Sum- and difference-frequency generation in media with quadratic nonlinearity permits reaching otherwise inaccessible wavelength r ...

Using (27.12 +/- 0.14) x 10(8) ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) -> Ω(-)K(+) Ξ 0 + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B-Psi(3686)->Omega K--(+)Xi
