Plasmonic photochemistry has a large potential to replace energy-intensive chemical processes with low-temperature, low-pressure light-driven chemical reactions. Plasmonic nanostructures have emerged as promising photocatalysts with exceptional and tunable ...

X-rays have been observed in natural downward cloud-to-ground lightning for over 20 years and in rocket-triggered lightning for slightly less. In both cases, this energetic radiation has been detected during the stepped and dart leader phases of downward n ...

The design point that had been chosen for EU DEMO in 2016 is reviewed here and a modification is proposed with a lower aspect ratio. Previously the same aspect ratio, A, was chosen for EU DEMO as in major tokamak experiments including ITER (A = 3.1), and, ...

The immense potential of optical metasurfaces is showcased by demonstrating several state-of-the-art applications with plasmonic metasurfaces along with experimental investigation of their polarization response using Mueller matrix spectroscopy. The work o ...

The interaction of light and matter enables nonlinear frequency conversion and the creation of coherent currents. The optical control of electric currents is of fundamental relevance and prominent research focus in the last decades. These photocurrents ena ...

We introduce a classification of the radial spin textures in momentum space that emerge at the high-symmetry points in crystals characterized by nonpolar chiral point groups (D2, D3, D4, D6, T, O). Based on the symmetry constraints imposed by these point g ...

Secondary electron emission is an important process that plays a significant role in several plasma-related applications. As measuring the secondary electron yield experimentally is very challenging, quantitative modelling of this process to obtain reliabl ...

We report on deep-to-near-UV transient absorption spectra of core-shell Au/SiO2 and Au/TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) excited at the surface plasmon resonance of the Au core, and of UV-excited bare anatase TiO2 NPs. The bleaching of the first excitonic transitio ...

Machine learned interatomic interaction potentials have enabled efficient and accurate molecular simulations of closed systems. However, external fields, which can greatly change the chemical structure and/or reactivity, have been seldom included in curren ...

We propose and demonstrate dendrimer-based coatings for a sensitive biochip surface that enhance the high-performance sorption of small molecules (i.e., biomolecules with low molecular weights) and the sensitivity of a label-free, real-time photonic crysta ...

We construct divergence-free Sobolev vector fields in C([0,1];W-1,W-r(T-d;Rd)) with r < d and d\geq 2 which simultaneously admit any finite number of distinct positive solutions to the continuity equation. These vector fields are then shown to have at leas ...

We study the plasmon modes of gold nanorods (as short as similar to 100 nm) on a nonmetallic conductive substrate using scanning tunneling microscope-induced light emission (STM-LE) with a nonplasmonic tungsten tip at room temperature in high vacuum (10-7 ...

Medical research and technological advancements are heading towards tailored healthcare approaches that prioritize individual needs, allowing for more accurate diagnoses, more effective treatments, and better patient outcomes overall. One such approach is ...

This paper describes CosmoGattice, a modern package for lattice simulations of the dynamics of interacting scalar and gauge fields in an expanding universe. CosmoGattice incorporates a series of features that makes it very versatile and powerful: i) it is ...

This contribution presents an isotropic field probe to assess human exposition to broadband magnetic fields in the 400 MHz to 6 GHz band according to the ICNIRP 2020 guidelines. This device complements the current practice in this band, based on the measur ...

The classical Lagrangian of the Standard Model enjoys the symmetry of the full conformal group if the mass of the Higgs boson is put to zero. This is a hint that conformal symmetry may play a fundamental role in the ultimate theory describing nature. The o ...

Harnessing nonequilibrium hot carriers from plasmonic metal nanostructures constitutes a vibrant research field with the potential to control photochemical reactions, particularly for solar fuel generation. However, a comprehensive understanding of the int ...

Molecular hydrogen adsorbed on graphene was investigated by analyzing rotational excitation spectra obtained with a gate-tunable scanning tunneling microscope (STM). Through the shift of the rotational excitation energy, the tunability of physisorbed H2 on ...

Neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) to multiple epitopes on the HIV-1-envelope glycoprotein (Env) have been isolated from infected persons. The potency of NAbs is measured more often than the size of the persistent fraction of infectivity at maximum neutralizat ...

In this paper, we present the characteristics of current, electric fields and modeling approaches of lightning M-component mode of charge transfer. We consider both the classical M-components (occurring after return strokes) and M-component-type ICC (Initi ...
