Solar photovoltaics (PV) will play an important role in decarbonising the energy system. To date, most assessments of PV transition pathways focus on least-cost aspects, without neither considering the time needed to achieve a substantial PV deployment, no ...

A major renewable-energy milestone occurred in 2022: Photovoltaics (PV) exceeded a global installed capacity of 1 TWdc. But despite considerable growth and cost reduction over time, PV is still a small part of global electricity generation (4 to 5% for 202 ...

This study investigated the power production and blade fatigue of a three-turbine array subjected to active yaw control (AYC) in full-wake and partial-wake configurations. A framework of a two-way coupled large eddy simulation (LES) and an aeroelastic blad ...

In this work, a systematic approach combining different energy solutions and the time-varying energy demands is used to identify the operating conditions and arrangements for industrial complexes. A kraft pulp mill integrated to an urban district heating n ...

Wind-tunnel experiments are performed to investigate the effect of minor modifications to the roof edge shape on the power performance and wake characteristics of a horizontal-axis wind turbine sited on a cube-shaped building. Three roof edge shapes are co ...

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2RR) currently attracts considerable attention as a way to make fuels and value-added products from CO2 using renewable energy. Much effort has been devoted to developing efficient electrode materials for ...

Thermodynamics and heat engines are the core disciplines which enabled the development of the thermo-industrial society during the 20th century. Liquid hydrocarbon fuels are one of the easiest and most convenient solutions offered by the thermophysical con ...

Most large-eddy simulation studies related to wind energy have been carried out either by using a fixed pressure gradient to ensure that mean wind direction is perpendicular to the wind turbine rotor disk or by forcing the flow with a geostrophic wind and ...

When wind turbines are arranged in large wind farms, their efficiency decreases significantly due to wake effects and to complex turbulence interactions with the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) [1]. For large wind farms whose length exceeds the ABL height ...
