This paper aims to comprehend the behavioral aspects of beam-to-column subassemblies with highly dissipative circular hollow section (CHS) panel zones with emphasis on those with large panel aspect ratios (i.e., greater than 1.5) via experiments and contin ...

Reinforced concrete flat slabs consist of a continuous, thin concrete plate that rests on a grid of columns. The supporting surface of the columns is very small compared to the floor plan dimensions, leading to concentrations of shear forces near the colum ...

In November 2022, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published the Technical Specification CEN/TS 19101:2022, "Design of Fibre-Polymer Composite Structures."These design provisions, which follow the philosophy and partial factor format of the ...

This paper presents a numerical study assessing the seismic performance of steel moment-resisting frames (SMRFs) designed with ductile exposed column-base plate (ECBP) connections employing yielding anchor rods. For their potential use as weak bases, the p ...

Capillarity plays a crucial role in many natural and engineered systems, ranging from nutrient delivery in plants to functional textiles for wear comfort or thermal heat pipes for heat dissipation. Unlike nano- or microfluidic systems with well-defined por ...

Bridges are a critical component of national infrastructures and economies. A significant percentage of bridges built all around the world are made of reinforced concrete which according to building codes have a life span between 80-100 years. However, str ...

Determining the relationship between the cause of damage and the subsequent structural behavior of infrastructure systems requires an accurate characterization of the propagation of cracks, which represents the evolution of the damage state. When no inform ...

The concept of post-tensioned glass beams builds on the concrete analogy of the reinforced glass beams. By additionally prestressing the reinforcement in a post-tensioned system, a compressive pre-stress is applied on the glass, enhancing the initial fract ...

The use of punching shear reinforcement is currently considered as one of the most convenient practices to enhance the punching shear strength and deformation capacity of slab-column connections in flat slabs. Intensive research has been performed in the l ...

The through-thickness compressive behavior of fabric reinforcements is crucial in liquid composite molding manufacturing processes. Predictive simulations of the compressive response are thus necessary to enable a virtual processing workflow. These are com ...

The behavior of reinforced-concrete structural elements under moving loads involves many complex parameters related to material properties, vehicle loading, environmental changes and structural response. It is difficult to generate the real conditions of l ...

The forms of U-shaped UHPFRC beams have not been investigated for the highway footbridge. Compared with the traditional section forms, the U-shaped UHPFRC beams can reduce the material consumption under the condition of providing the same bearing capacity. ...

Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) is a cementitious composite material where a carbon or glass fabric is embedded as reinforcement. The use of TRC allows building thin and light structures, with reduced concrete covers and an enhanced durability due to the ...

This paper aims to characterize the force–deformation response of through-tenon wood-wood connections subjected to out-of-plane (flatwise) loads. Six beech LVL timber specimen groups with variations in the fiber orientation (parallel and perpendicular) and ...

Textile reinforced concrete (TRC) is a cementitious‐based material where reinforcement consists of high‐strength noncorrosive textile fabrics. Due to the use of a noncorrosive reinforcement, cover requirements can be limited to minimum static values and th ...

This paper introduces the most recent techniques that have been developed for pre-stressed strengthening of metallic members. Details of utilization of new advanced materials such as carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), NiTiNb- and Fe-shape memory alloy ...

The Opalinus Clay shale formation is considered as a potential host geomaterial for the Swiss deep geological repository for radioactive waste. It presents different facies and it is characterised by a multi-scale heterogeneous composition, by a typical fi ...

Provisions for punching shear design of reinforced concrete slabs are usually calibrated on the basis of results from tests on isolated specimens that simulate the slab zone within the points of contraflexure around a column. However, the punching behavior ...

The design of reinforced concrete flat slabs can be governed at failure by punching shear close to concentrated loads or columns. Geometrical features, reinforcement layouts and in-plane forces provided by external vertical elements, such as shear walls, c ...

Reinforced concrete flat slabs constitute one of the most common and efficient modern construction methods. The design of such structural system might be governed by a brittle failure in the vicinity of the slab-column connection associated to punching she ...
