The Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) facility is a challenging high-field and compact tokamak, currently under construction at the Frascati ENEA Research Center. Its purpose is to significantly contribute to the exploration, design and assessment of systems int ...

The use of magnetic fields in low-temperature plasma physics is promising in numerous applications. The magnetic field acts on the kinetic of the plasma charged particles, drastically modifying the ion and electron trajectories in the plasma. The influence ...

This thesis explores the innovative potential of active acoustic metamaterials in the manipulation of sound waves through dynamic control and topological principles. Traditional acoustic metamaterials, while capable of achieving remarkable feats such as ne ...

This paper introduces a distributed operational solution for integrated transmission-distribution (ITD) system management. A fundamental challenge in designing distributed approaches for AC optimal power flow (OPF) problems in ITD systems is the nonconvexi ...

We investigate the magnetic structure and magnetoelectric(ME) effect in the high -field phase of the antiferromagnet LiFePO 4 above the critical field of 31 T. A neutron diffraction study in pulsed magnetic fields reveals the propagation vector to be q = 0 ...

Gyrotrons are a class of high-power vacuum-electronics microwave sources, which are envisioned to play an important role in the domain of magnetically confined fusion plasmas. Indeed, only gyrotrons are capable of producing continuous electromagnetic waves ...

The sawtooth instability is known for inducing transport and loss of energetic particles (EPs), and for generating seed magnetic islands that can trigger tearing modes. Both effects degrade the overall plasma performance. Several theories and numerical mod ...

The generation of large-scale magnetic fields ((B) over bar) in astrophysical systems is driven by the mean turbulent electromotive force ((E) over bar), the cross-correlation between local fluctuations of velocity and magnetic fields. This can depend non- ...

Providing an additional degree of freedom for binary information encoding and nonreciprocal information transmission, chiral single photons have become a new research frontier in quantum optics. Without using complex external conditions (e.g., magnetic fie ...

An adjoint method to calculate the gradient of island width in stellarators is presented and applied to a set of magnetic field configurations. The underlying method for calculation of the island width is that of Cary & Hanson (Phys. Fluids B, vol. 3, issu ...

We present DT neutron rate extrapolations for the baseline and hybrid scenarios of the imminent JET DTE2 experimental campaign using the Monte Carlo heating code ASCOT, using empirically scaled plasmas parameters as inputs. The scalings used are based on t ...

Although the frustrated (zigzag) spin chain is the Drosophila of frustrated magnetism, our understanding of a pair of coupled zigzag chains (frustrated spin ladder) in a magnetic field is still lacking. We address this problem through nuclear magnetic reso ...

A Doppler shifted resonance minority species ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) scheme for heating neutral beam ions has been identified and optimized for theWendelstein 7-X stellarator. Compared with more conventional methods, the synergetic scheme i ...

The divertor configuration defines the power exhaust capabilities of DEMO as one of the major key design parameters and sets a number of requirements on the tokamak layout, including port sizes, poloidal field coil positions, and size of toroidal field coi ...

Frustrated spin-1/2 chains, despite the apparent simplicity, exhibit a remarkably rich phase diagram comprising vector-chiral (VC), spin-density-wave (SDW), and multipolar/spin-nematic phases as a function of the magnetic field. Here we report a study of b ...

A steerable catheter (10) comprises portions (100, 105) of different stiffness, having a proximal end (11), a distal end, a lumen extending there between, at least one magnet (20) at the proximal end (11), at least a magnetic field to influence the proxima ...

In this paper we present and discuss measurements of electric (vertical and radial) and magnetic fields from leaders and return strokes associated with lightning strikes to the 100 m tall Gaisberg tower in Austria obtained in 2007 and 2008. The fields were ...

One of the characteristic features of the electromagnetic fields radiated by lightning is the far-field inversion of polarity with a zero-crossing occurring in the tens of microseconds range. This feature has been used in several studies to test the abilit ...
