Omnidirectional video streaming is usually implemented based on the representations of tiles, where the tiles are obtained by splitting the video frame into several rectangular areas and each tile is converted into multiple representations with different r ...

The estimation of the orientation of an object, and a human head in particular, can be defined by the Euler angles: the yaw, pitch and roll. The robust and drift-free estimation of those angles is usually achieved with the data from several sensors such as ...

Due to the increasing number of pictures captured and stored every day by and on digital devices, lossy image compression has become inevitable to limit the needed storage requirement. As a consequence, these compression methods might introduce some visual ...

Point cloud is a promising imaging modality for the representation of 3D media. The vast volume of data associated with it requires efficient compression solutions, with lossy algorithms leading to larger bit-rate savings at the expense of visual impairmen ...

This paper presents a quality evaluation study of point cloud codecs that have been recently standardised by the MPEG committee. In particular, a subjective experiment to assess their performance in terms of bitrate against visual quality is designed and r ...

Remote microphone systems significantly improve speech intelligibly performance offered by hearing aids. The voice of the speaker(s) is captured close to the mouth by a microphone, then wirelessly sent to the hearing aids. However, the sound is rendered in ...

Enhancing speech intelligibility for hearing-impaired subjects in complex acoustic conditions is still a challenging topic of research. To mitigate the detrimental effects of background noise and reverberation, current hearing instruments incorporate vario ...

The growing requirements for broadcasting and streaming of high quality video continue to trigger demands for codecs with higher compression efficiency. AV1 is the most recent open and royalty free video coding specification developed by Alliance for Open ...

Little is known about the perception of artificial spatial hearing by hearing-impaired subjects. The purpose of this study was to investigate how listeners with hearing disorders perceived the effect of a spatialization feature designed for wireless microp ...

The security of public-key cryptography relies on well-studied hard problems, problems for which we do not have efficient algorithms. Factorization and discrete logarithm are the two most known and used hard problems. Unfortunately, they can be easily solv ...

This research addresses the challenge of incorporating dynamic range limiting of the magnitude response of HRTFs for hearing-impaired listeners who are using binaural hearing aids. In this application, a direct implementation of spatialization using the or ...

In this paper we propose a method to adapt the quantization tables of typical block-based transform codecs when the input to the encoder is a panoramic image resulting from equirectangular projection of a spherical image. When the visual content is project ...

In architecture, space is traditionally understood as a cumulus of forms, colors and textures that form a conceived area, or-in other words-architectural space design is mainly achieved by following visual concepts. The human experience of space, however, ...

The Bjontegaard model is widely used to calculate the compression efficiency between different codecs. However, this model is not sufficient to investigate the impact on quality of the interaction of the base and enhancement layer bit rates when comparing ...

This article introduces the constraints and issues related to the implementation of a binaural localization algorithm on a pair of hearing aids. The algorithm should improve the rendering of the spatial information available in the audio signals, which are ...

As audio reproduction systems evolve to incorporate many loudspeakers, the potential to evoke faithful auditory spatial impressions increases. Psychoacoustic principles of auditory spatial perception, and methods for production and reproduction of acoustic ...

This paper introduces high-quality audio coding using psychoacoustic models. This technology is now abundant, with gadgets named after a standard (mp3 players) and the ability to play high-quality audio from literally billions of devices. The usual paradig ...

Vision sensor networks and video cameras find widespread usage in several applications that rely on effective representation of scenes or analysis of 3D information. These systems usually acquire multiple images of the same 3D scene from different viewpoin ...

We present a scalable medium bit-rate wide-band audio coding technique based on frequency domain linear prediction (FDLP). FDLP is an efficient method for representing the long-term amplitude modulations of speech/audio signals using autoregressive models. ...

We investigate a subband adaptive version of the popular iterative shrinkage/thresholding algorithm that takes different update steps and thresholds for each subband. In particular, we provide a condition that ensures convergence and discuss why making the ...
