CO2 reduction in an electrolysis cell with a forward bias bipolar membrane (BPM) ensures good selectivity and CO2 utilization, but still suffers from large overvoltages. Recent studies have shown that integrating metal-oxide catalysts at the BPM junction i ...

The appropriate regulation of band structure is an effective strategy in constructing efficient photocatalytic systems. Present photocatalytic system mainly employs powder photocatalysts, which makes their recovery reliant on expensive separation processes ...

Since the 1760s, modern civilization has significantly enhanced human efficiency and living standards, whereas it heavily depends on fossil fuels for primary energy. The overreliance raises concerns about energy and environmental crises. It prompts the nee ...

Coupling a biomass gasifier with a solid oxide fuel cell system through a high-temperature syngas compressor holds great promise to achieve low-emission, small-scale combined heat and power, since it reduces the number of heat exchangers and increases the ...

The production of synthetic fuels and chemicals from solar energy and abundant reagents offers a promising pathway to a sustainable fuel economy and chemical industry. For the production of hydrogen, photoelectrochemical or integrated photovoltaic and elec ...

The accumulation of various contaminants in air, soil and water is threatening the natural environment. The remediation of the environmental contaminations is today an urge. Among the remediation methods employed, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are a ...

Nowadays, mankind is facing an important energy challenge. Depletion in fossil fuels reserves and increasing energy demand, coupled with the problematic greenhouse effect induced by massive anthropogenic release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, are d ...

The water splitting is an appealing approach to fulfil the demand of energy without any global concerns. The oxygen evolution reaction is one of way to achieve unlimited energy from water but the low stability, high energy required to drive the reaction (o ...

At the dawn of the 21st century, mankind is facing an important energy challenge. Future energy demand can only be met by large scale exploitation of renewable energy resources. Solar energy is abundant, with a sufficient capacity for the growing energy de ...

Motivated to revolutionize our today's fossil fuels based energy production, my work concentrated on the investigation of promising low-cost materials for photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and photovoltaic electricity generation. Hydrogen presents a ...

Water splitting is one of the cleanest ways to store energy. The production of hydrogen and oxygen gases can be utilized in fuel cells to generate electricity, power, and heat. In the water splitting process, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), taking pla ...

Concerns over climate change resulting from accumulation of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the uncertainty in the amount of recoverable fossil fuel reserves are driving forces for the development of renewable, carbon-neutral energy tech ...

Recent research on photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting has introduced the concept of under-and overlayers for the activation of ultrathin hematite films. Their effects on the photocatalytic behavior were clearly shown; however, the mechani ...

Providing energy for a population projected to reach 9 billion people within the middle of this century is one of the most pressing societal issues. Burning fossil fuels at a rate and scale that satisfy our near-term demand will irreversibly damage the liv ...

Semiconducting delafossite-phase CuFeO2 is a promising photocathode material for solar-driven hydrogen production given its suitable energy levels and established robustness for photoelectrochemical water reduction. Nevertheless, reported methods for prepa ...

Charge transport in nanoparticle-based materials underlies many emerging energy-conversion technologies, yet assessing the impact of nanometre-scale structure on charge transport across micrometre-scale distances remains a challenge. Here we develop an app ...

Despite the outstanding role of mesoscopic structures on the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in the regular (n-i-p) architecture, mesoscopic PSCs in inverted (p-i-n) architecture have rarely been reported. Herein, an efficient and ...

A facile and low-cost dip-coating process for the deposition of silicon doped hematite films (Si:alpha-Fe2O3) for hydrogen production by solar water splitting in photo-electrochemical cells (PEC) is presented. The precursors include iron nitrate, oleic aci ...

The main focus of this thesis is the exploration of inorganic and metal-organic heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen (H2) energy applications. In particular, we investigated metal nanoparticles (NPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for their employment ...

The world needs to think about the after fossil fuel era and while the sun baths the earth with a tremendous amount of energy, man must learn how to harvest and store it in order to dispose of a continuous supply meeting his needs. Water photo-electrolysis ...
