Kinetically fast racemization of chiral substrates through an achiral intermediate and enantioselective functionalization of one of the enantiomeric substrates forms the basis of the dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) of centrally chiral molecules. We report ...

Curcuminoids and their complexes continue to attract attention in medicinal chemistry, but little attention has been given to their metabolic derivatives. Here, the first examples of (arene)Ru(II) complexes with curcuminoid metabolites, tetrahydrocurcumin ...

Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs), featuring reactive combinations of Lewis acids and Lewis bases, have been utilized for myriad metal-free homogeneous catalytic processes. Immobilizing the active Lewis sites to a solid support, especially to porous scaffolds, ...

Structurally and conformationally diverse databases are needed to train accurate neural networks or kernel-based potentials capable of exploring the complex free energy landscape of flexible functional organic molecules. Curating such databases for species ...

Our ability to study and valorize the lignin fraction of biomass is hampered by the fundamental and still unmet challenge of precisely quantifying native lignin's structural features. Here, we developed a rapid elevated-temperature H-1-C-13 Heteronuclear S ...

In contrast to the well-studied 1-vinylcyclobu- tanols, the reactivity of 3-vinylazetidin-3-ols 1 and 3- vinyloxetan-3-ols 2 under transition metal catalysis remains largely unexplored. We report herein their unique reactivity under dual palladium and acid ...

The constant urge to construct new molecules in an economical and sustainable fashion led to the development of numerous metal-catalyzed transformations. Organocatalysts consisting of abundant and more sustainable elements offer an elegant solution to over ...

The spatially resolved identification of active sites on the heterogeneous catalyst surface is an essential step toward directly visualizing a catalytic reaction with atomic scale. To date, ferrous centers on platinum group metals have shown promising pote ...

Metal-porphyrins are studied intensively due their potential applications, deriving from the variety of electronic and chemical properties, tunable by selecting metal centers and functional groups. Metalation, de- and trans-metalation processes are fundame ...

Lignin obtained by hydrogenolysis of lignocellulose biomass is a prospective source of valuable green fuels and chemicals such as monophenols. One of the key factors in the chemical decomposition of lignin to monophenols is an efficient catalyst. Inert por ...

Cobalt(II) complexes featuring hexadentate amino-pyridyl ligands have been recently discovered as highly active catalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER), whose high performance arises from the possibility of assisting proton transfer processes v ...

Structure determination of materials is key to understanding their physical properties. While single-crystal X-ray diffraction is the gold standard for structures displaying long-range order, many materials of interest are polycrystalline and/or disordered ...

The presence of chemisorbed oxygen on the Cu(111) surface is known to strongly reduce the activation barrier for water dissociation as compared to bare Cu(111). Here, we present direct experimental evidence for the hydrogen abstraction mechanism responsibl ...

The sensitivity of NMR spectroscopy is considerably enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). In DNP polarization is transferred from unpaired electrons of a polarizing agent to nearby proton spins. In solids, this transfer is followed by the transpo ...

The subject of the present work is discovery and in-depth characterization of a new class of functional materials. Tuning of the bond polarity and orbital occupation with a goal of establishing balance between localization and delocalization of electrons - ...

Catalytic hydrogenations are important and widely applied processes for the reduction of organic compounds both in academic laboratories and in industry. To perform these reactions in sustainable and practical manner, the development and applicability of n ...

One key bottleneck of solid-state NMR spectroscopy is that H-1 NMR spectra of organic solids are often very broad due to the presence of a strong network of dipolar couplings. We have recently suggested a new approach to tackle this problem. More specifica ...

Protein-based drugs are becoming increasingly important, but there are challenges associated with their formulation (for example, formulating stable inhalable aerosols while maintaining the proper long-term stability of the protein). Determining the morpho ...

The role of 1H solid-state NMR in structure elucidation of solids is becoming more preponderant, particularly as faster magic-angle spinning rates (MAS) become available which improve 1H detected assignment strategies. However, current 1H spectral resoluti ...

In solid-state NMR, homonuclear dipolar couplings contribute greatly to the broadening of 1H spectral line shapes. Even at the fastest magic-angle spinning rates (MAS) available today [100-150kHz], the linewidths still extend over several hundred Hertz, li ...
