Perovskite solar cells have seen impressive progress in performance and stability, yet maintaining efficiency while scaling area remains a challenge. Here we find that additives commonly used to passivate large-area perovskite films often co-precipitate du ...

Since the 1760s, modern civilization has significantly enhanced human efficiency and living standards, whereas it heavily depends on fossil fuels for primary energy. The overreliance raises concerns about energy and environmental crises. It prompts the nee ...

The production of synthetic fuels and chemicals from solar energy and abundant reagents offers a promising pathway to a sustainable fuel economy and chemical industry. For the production of hydrogen, photoelectrochemical or integrated photovoltaic and elec ...

We discuss electro-optic modulators from flat optics that change the intensity of light at speeds up to the microwaves. We employ a hybrid platform that combines silicon-silica nanoresonators with an electro-optic organic coating that maximizes the interac ...

Despite the outstanding role of mesoscopic structures on the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in the regular (n-i-p) architecture, mesoscopic PSCs in inverted (p-i-n) architecture have rarely been reported. Herein, an efficient and ...

Intramolecular singlet fission (iSF) has shown Or potential to improve the power conversion efficiency in photo-voltaic devices by promoting the splitting of a photon-absorbing singlet exciton into two triplet excitons within a single molecule. Among diffe ...

The investigation of innovative electrolytes based on nontoxic and nonflammable solvents is an up-to-date, intriguing challenge to push forward the environmental sustainability of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Water is one of the best choices, thus 1 ...

Surface passivation is a critical factor for improving the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells. However, more robust principle investigations are required to build effective passivation strategies enabling high-performance perovskite solar c ...

With perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs) now reaching efficiencies of greater than 20 %, the stability of PSC devices has become a critical challenge for commercialization. However, most efficient hole-transporting materials (HTMs) thus far still rely on t ...

Plasmonic nanostructures have shown great promise in solar thermal applications. Here we report highly efficient solar vapor generation using hollow-mesoporous plasmonic nanoshells, where the steam production is significantly enhanced by the extended activ ...

Localised and high-frequency measurements of the global horizontal irradiance (GHI) are a key information to assess the level of power production of distributed photovoltaic generation. The paper presents a supervised machine learning-based procedure to es ...

The widely different effects of Cu-polyester (PES) sputtered by high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) compared to the lower energy direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS) leading to bacterial inactivation are addressed during the course of th ...

Fluorinated-titanium dioxide (TiO2-F) nanoparticles in a pure anatase polymorph was precipitated from solution by hydrolysis of titanium oxychloride, using urea and ammonia as precipitation agents and potassium fluoride as a source of fluorine anion. A fur ...

In this work we present the result of a collaboration between the Polytechnic Schools of Dakar (ESP) and Lausanne (EPFL) on the testing and monitoring of solar photovoltaic modules. The collaboration has involved the exchange of knowledge, methodologies an ...

Tuning the chemical composition and structure for targeted functionality in two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets has become a major objective in the rapidly growing area of 2D materials. In the context of photocatalysis, both miniaturization and extending the l ...

Insight is provided in this study for the effect of the TiO2film densification/compactness on polyethy-lene (PE-TiO2) by sputtering TiO2at two very different energy levels. Uniform, adhesive low energy filmswere prepared by direct current magnetron sputter ...

The present invention provides a porous semiconductor electrode passivated by way of a layer applied by an atomic layer deposition (ALD) process. The semiconductor electrode can be advantageously used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) having increase op ...

High solubility is a requirement for energy relay dyes (ERDs) to absorb a large portion of incident light and significantly improve the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Two benzonitrile-soluble ERDs, BL302 and BL315, were synthesized, char ...

A series of metal-free organic dyes exploiting different combinations of (hetero)cyclic linkers (benzene, thiophene, and thiazole) and bridges (4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithiophene (CPDT) and benzodithiophene (BDT)) as the central pi-spacers were synthes ...
