Thermal conductance measurements are sensitive to both charge and chargeless energy flow and are an essential measurement technique in condensed-matter physics. For two-dimensional topological insulators, the determination of thermal Hall (transverse) cond ...

Fermi surfaces can undergo sharp transitions under smooth changes of parameters. Such transitions can have a topological character, as is the case when a higher-order singularity, one that requires cubic or higher-order terms to describe the electronic dis ...

Environment is assumed to play a negative role in quantum mechanics, destroying the coherence in a quantum system and, thus, randomly changing its state. However, for a quantum system that is initially in a degenerate ground state, the situation could be d ...

Suprathermal ions, created by fusion reactions or by additional heating, will play an important role in burning plasmas such as the ones in ITER or DEMO. Basic plasma experiments, with easy access for diagnostics and well-controlled plasma scenarios, are p ...

This talk will discuss recent advances in the nascent field of integrated photonic circuits for terahertz applications. This field explores photonic circuit technology to create miniaturized terahertz emitters and detectors by non-linear optical processes ...

We investigate the zero-temperature phase diagram of the fully frustrated transverse-field Ising model on the square lattice both in the classical limit and in the presence of quantum fluctuations. At the classical level (the limit of infinite spin S), we ...

This thesis is focused on classical and semiclassical approximations of a specific quantum time correlation function, the “quantum fidelity.” Namely, we rigorously study the efficiency of a continuous class of algorithms for the evaluation of its classical ...

We investigate, using a first-principles density functional methodology, the nature of magnetism in monolayer 1T phase of tantalum disulfide (1T-TaS2). Magnetism in the insulating phase of TaS2 is a longstanding puzzle and has led to a variety of theoretic ...

Strongly peaked tungsten accumulation is a common feature of high performance plasma scenarios in JET with the ITER-like wall, particularly during MHD activity induced by m/n = 1/1 continuous modes. This study investigates the effect of 1/1 long living int ...

Performance evaluation of the 802.11 MAC protocol is classically based on the decoupling assumption, which hypothesizes that the backoff processes at different nodes are independent. A necessary condition for the validity of this approach is the existence ...

We present and characterize the galaxy-galaxy lensing signal measured using the first three years of data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES Y3) covering 4132 deg2. These galaxy-galaxy measurements are used in the DES Y3 3 ?? 2 pt cosmological analysis, whic ...

In this article, the effect of the various processing steps during the fabrication of c-Si/SiOx/SiCx fired passivating contacts on the silicon bulk lifetime is studied, and the kinetics of defect deactivation by hydrogenation is investigated. It is found t ...

Analytical solutions to problems of solids mechanics are useful to test the accuracy and the precision of the numerical approaches. Problems such as shear locking or boundary layer can be better understood with the help of analytical solutions. However, it ...

Taking into account the impact of self-heating and temperature rise effects, this work presents a physics-based analytical model for HEMTs, operating continuously from room temperature to high temperatures in linear and saturation regimes. Relying on the c ...

This work is dedicated to the study of models of quantum chaos. It is clear that one cannot define chaos in quantum mechanics the same way it is defined in classical dynamics. The classical definition of chaos relies upon the ideas of sensitive dependence ...

Thermally stimulated current (TSC) is a widely used technique to assess trap states and extract their density, energy, and capture rate using analytical expressions. In many cases, the latter are derived from physical models pertaining to inorganic semicon ...

We report on a 16-core recirculating programmable photonic array based on MEMS-tunable directional couplers. The photonic array has a compact footprint (0.04mm(2)/cell) and negligible static power consumption. Waveguide-coupled single-ring resonators, CROW ...

Results from the last FTU campaigns on RE mitigation strategies for quiescent and post-disruption RE beams are presented. We provide experimental evidence that for some RE quiescent scenarios D-2 solid pellets achieve complete RE suppression capability, ma ...
