Deformation-dependent punching shear resistance often constitutes the decisive design criterion for reinforced concrete slabs supported by columns. The increasing number of aging structures exhibiting insufficient punching resistance and detailing deficien ...

Over the past twenty years, a substantial amount of research has been performed to expand the modeling capabilities of energy geostructures: innovative earth-contact structures that provide combined structural support and renewable energy supply. Several a ...

This paper deals with the design method and the experimental verification of a new type of steel–concrete composite beam under static and fatigue loading. The connection is an alternative solution for steel–concrete composite bridges suitable for prefabric ...

Many building codes rely on empirical formulations with respect to the punching shear design provisions. Such empirical equations are typically calibrated on the basis of laboratory tests performed on simplified geometries (usually isolated specimens) with ...

The strengthening of existing steel structures against high-cycle fatigue (HCF) loading has become one of the most important topics of interest in structural rehabilitation. Apart from the conventional strengthening techniques that incorporate bulky and he ...

An original concept is presented for the durable rehabilitation of concrete bridge deck slabs. The main idea is to add a layer of Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) with or without steel reinforcing bars over the concrete slab to cre ...

Reinforced concrete flat slab structures are used widely in construction projects due to their economic and functional advantages. Punching shear failure in such structures can have catastrophic effects in the case of, for example, multi-storey framed stru ...

Prestressing in flat slabs helps in controlling deformations and cracking under service loads and allows reducing the required slab thickness, leading thus to more slender structures and being therefore an economic solution for long spans. However, as a co ...

The punching shear resistance formulation provided by Model Code 2010 is calibrated on the basis of experimental tests on isolated slabs supported on columns. According to Level of Approximation approach, several quantities are required for the design punc ...

The present work investigates an innovative class of timber structure with potential applications in roofing, facade and bridge construction, called Timberfabric. The development of Timberfabric structures originates from the approach of harnessing the str ...

Previous studies have investigated the slab effects on the cyclic behavior of composite beams in moment-resisting frames. Of interest in this paper, is the slab contribution to the flexural strength and effective stiffness of the beam. The former influence ...

An original concept is presented for the durable rehabilitation of concrete bridge deck slabs. The main idea is to add a layer of Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) with steel reinforcing bars over the concrete slab to create a compo ...

Experimental and numerical cup drawing process has been investigated on 0.65 mm zinc sheets. The cup exhibits anisotropic earrings due to the material microstructure. The material formability is studied through elliptical bulge tests in the rolling, diagon ...

An analytical investigation of the buckling/wrinkling behavior of GFRP webs in cell-core sandwiches subjected to combined in-plane shear and bending stresses is conducted. Web-core panels are modeled as long orthotropic plates stabilized by a relatively th ...

In multi-storey buildings, columns are usually not continuous through the slabs to enhance ease of construction. Consequently, in slab–column joints, slabs have to carry column loads in addition to the shear and bending moments due to loads applied to the ...

Punching shear of reinforced concrete flat slabs supported on columns is a failure mode in which the slab fractures around the column. This type of failure is sudden and can be catastrophic in nature. Punching shear generally governs the ultimate limit sta ...

Flat slabs are commonly used in buildings due to their easiness of construction and economy. In order to keep these advantages, columns are usually not continuous through the slabs in multi-storey buildings. In these cases, the slabs are subjected to large ...

Ultra-High Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) is a material characterised by significantly improved mechanical and durability properties compared to other concretes. In recent years, an important research effort has been made to identify approp ...
