Optical frequency combs are a series of phase-locked and equidistant laser lines in the spectral domain. In the time domain, they correspond to periodic pulse trains by the Fourier relation. The ability to shape optical combs and pulse trains is pivotal to ...

A cryogenic broadband low noise amplifier (LNA) for quantum applications based on a standard 40-nm CMOS technology is reported. The LNA specifications are derived from the readout of semiconductor quantum bits at 4.2 K, whose quantum information signals ar ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

Resonant waveguide gratings (RWGs), also known as guided mode resonant (GMR) gratings or waveguide-mode resonant gratings, are dielectric structures where these resonant diffractive elements benefit from lateral leaky guided modes and can operate from UV t ...

This thesis presents results of a research on unidirectional isolator-free cavity lasers, exploiting thulium-doped fiber (TDF) as amplification medium and operating in \unit[2]{\mu m} wavelength range. For fibre ring resonator, an optical isolator should b ...

Morphing commonly refers to the smooth transition from a specific shape into another one, in which the initial and final shapes can be significantly different. In this study, we show that the concept of morphing applied to laser micro-manufacturing offers ...

Brown adipose fat tissue of a mouse dissipates the animal’s energy in the form of heat. Chronically recording the temperature of this tissue helps biologists to study the metabolism of the animal and gain new insights about the obesity in humans. Such temp ...

The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology allows to construct several types of commonly used antennas in a planar way. However, some practical constraints limit their performances when frequencies below 20 GHz are considered. In the case of SIW h ...

We present a new profile for the electrodes forming the radial transmission line of a switched oscillator (SWO). The profile is formed using a curvilinear orthogonal space based on a specific 2-D transformation called logarithmic-tangent. The proposed prof ...

In this study, two reconfigurable bandpass filters are presented. The first filter is able to switch between WiFi and universal mobile telecommunications (UMTS) transmit band standards. Centre frequency, bandwidth and power specifications are precisely met ...

This study gives a full treatment of the network characterisation of multi-port planar circuits embedded in shielded stratified media with an integrated approach to lumped ports and wave ports. The details of the mathematical formulation for the retrieval ...

The exceptional performance of self-assembled Quantum Dot (QD) materials renders them extremely appealing for their use as optical communications devices. As lasers, they feature reduced and temperature independent threshold current and proper emission wav ...
