Signal Amplification by Reversible Exchange (SABRE) is an attractive nuclear spin hyperpolarization technique capable of huge sensitivity enhancement in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) detection. The resonance condition of SABRE hyperpolarization depends ...

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is an atomic-level method to determine the chemical structure, 3D structure and dynamics of solids and semi-solids. This Primer summarizes the basic principles of NMR spectroscopy as applied to the ...

Creatine (Cr) is an important organic compound acting as intracellular high-energy phosphate shuttle and in energy storage. While located in most cells where it plays its main roles in energy metabolism and cytoprotection, Cr is highly concentrated in musc ...

Resolution in proton solid state magic angle sample spinning (MAS) NMR is limited by the intrinsically imperfect nature of coherent averaging induced by either MAS or multiple pulse sequence methods. Here, we suggest that instead of optimizing and perfecti ...

Adverse environmental and social conditions early in life have a strong impact on health. They are major risk factors for mental diseases in adulthood and, in some cases, their effects can be transmitted across generations. The consequences of detrimental ...

MR is a well-established technique routinely used in preclinical and clinical studies. This thesis focussed on the improvement of sensitivity of different methods in MR. Hyperpolarized 129Xe gas is used for studying pulmonary disease or cerebral perfusion ...

Gold nanoparticles owe a large number of their properties to their ligand shell. Indeed, many researchers routinely use mixtures of ligand molecules for their nanoparticles to impart complex property sets. It has been shown that the morphology of ligand sh ...

We report on the magnetic coupling between isolated Co atoms as well as small Co islands and Ni(111) mediated by an epitaxial graphene layer. X-ray magnetic circular dichroism and scanning tunneling microscopy combined with density functional theory calcul ...

Magnetic resonance techniques at nuclei and electrons are applied to characterize the electronic structure and collective magnetic excitations throughout the magnetic phase diagrams of the lacunar spinels GaV4S8 and GaV4Se8 showing cycloidal, Néel-type sky ...

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is one of the most frequently diagnosed neurological disorders in emergency departments. Although there are established recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment in the acute stage, there is an on-going debate in wh ...

There is an ongoing surge of interest in the use of formamidinium (FA) lead iodide perovskites in photovoltaics due to their exceptional optoelectronic properties. However, thermodynamic instability of the desired cubic perovskite (α-FAPbI3) phase at ambie ...

Gyrotrons belong to the family of high-power coherent radiation sources known as Electron Cyclotron Masers (ECMs) and are based on the physical mechanism of the ECM-instability, converting electron rotational kinetic energy into coherent electromagnetic ra ...

The use of layered perovskites is an important strategy to improve the stability of hybrid perovskite materials and their optoelectronic devices. However, tailoring their properties requires accurate structure determination at the atomic scale, which is a ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a non-invasive tool for the study of human diseases. In particular, carbon-13 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C MRS) is a promising derivative tool for investigating metabolism in vivo, as it allows the non-invasive m ...

The detection of molecules that can bind to active sites of protein targets and the measurement of their affinities is a promising application of NMR. Nowadays, the screening of drug candidates is routinely done by NMR in pharmaceutical industry. We have p ...

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance under magic angle spinning (MAS) enhanced with dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a powerful approach to characterize many important classes of materials, allowing access to previously inaccessible structural and d ...

The magnetic properties of the two uranium coordination compounds, [K(18c6)][U(OSi-((OBu)-Bu-t)(3))(4)] and [K(18c6)][U(N(SiMe3)(2))(4)], both presenting the U-III ion in similar pseudotetrahedral coordination environments but with different O- or N-donor ...

The typical linewidths of H-1 NMR spectra of powdered organic solids at 111 kHz magic-angle spinning (MAS) are of the order of a few hundred Hz. While this is remarkable in comparison to the tens of kHz observed in spectra of static samples, it is still th ...

The paramagnetic NMR study of HoM2N@C-80-I-h and Ho2MN@C-80-I-h nitride cluster fullerenes (M = Sc, Lu, Y) reveals strong dependence of Ho-induced paramagnetic shifts (delta(para)) in C-13 NMR spectra on the size of the diamagnetic metal in the cluster. In ...

Substantial evidence implicates the nucleus accumbens in motivated performance, but very little is known about the neurochemical underpinnings of individual differences in motivation. Here, we applied 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) at ultra-hi ...
