During the last decades, intensive efforts have been applied to tackle the enormous emissions of CO2 into atmosphere. These efforts include not only developing efficient carbon capture techniques, but also the introduction of new ways to transform the capt ...

Metal-organic framework (MOFs) and related nanoporous materials have emerged as promising candidates for a variety of applications, such as gas separation and storage, catalysis, sensing, etc. Their building block structure allows us to generate a huge num ...

C-C and C-N bonds are some of the most common structures in molecules ranging from drugs to catalysts and to food additives. Many coupling reactions were developed to form these types of bonds with excellent selectivity and good performance. Still, the syn ...

The development of catalytic enantioselective transformations, enabling the construction of complex molecular scaffolds from simple precursors, has been a long-standing challenge in organic synthesis. Recent achievements in transition-metal catalyzed enant ...

The creation of new chiral ligands capable of providing high stereocontrol in metal-catalyzed reactions is crucial in modern organic synthesis. The production of bioactive molecules as single enantiomers is increasingly required, and asymmetric catalysis w ...

The performance of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites-based (MHPs) photovoltaic devices critically depends on the design and material properties of the interface between the light-harvesting MHP layer and the electron transport layer (ETL). Therefo ...

We report the development of a rapid method for the performance optimization of photoelectrodes. The method requires as an input incident photon-to-current efficiency (IPCE) measurements of a material at two or more wavelengths, an estimation of the comple ...

The atomic level understanding and control of the electron transport has important advantages for many applications, such as molecular electronics, solar cells and sensors. The target of my Ph.D. work is to investigate electronic and chemical properties of ...

Thermodynamic phase diagrams are the cornerstones to develop synthesis of new materials. Zinc phosphide has evolved into a prospective semicontuctor for next generation solar cells, thanks to its abundance and functional properties. Here we derive an optim ...

Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are robust and intensely colored macrocycles (blue pigments) with high chemical, thermal and light stability, properties that are of paramount importance for realistic photovoltaic applications. In particular, Pcs have played a very i ...

The key parameter for degenerated semiconductor oxide plasmonic nanocrystals is the doping level. Hydrothermal and solvothermal approaches are considered to be less effective toward achieving high concentration of aliovalent donor dopants in a host oxide w ...

A compelling link is emerging between the posttranslational modification O-GlcNAc and protein aggregation. A prime example is alpha-synuclein, which forms toxic aggregates that are associated with neurodegeneration in Parkinson's and related diseases. alph ...

In this thesis, we focus on investigating the shape and size evolution of colloidal CdSe nanomaterials in the presence of carboxylate and alkylamine surface ligands. By elaborating the combination of carboxylates and alkylamines with different hydrocarbon ...
