The ongoing electrification of the transportation fleet will increase the load on the electric power grid. Since both the transportation network and the power grid already experience periods of significant stress, joint analyses of both infrastructures wil ...

Vehicle sharing systems (VSSs) allow users to rent vehicles for a short period of time, in a more flexible and convenient manner compared to the traditional vehicle rental services. The long-term VSS subscription replaces the need for contract signing for ...

We determine the dimensions of Ext -groups between simple modules and dual generalized Verma modules in singular blocks of parabolic versions of category O for complex semisimple Lie algebras and affine Kac-Moody algebras. ...

In the last decades, transportation demand growth has played a major role in the increase of global CO2 footprint. At the same time, a number of countries have scheduled measurable and substantial cutback of CO2 emissions by 2050. As the transportation sec ...

Mobility scholars have long been interested in challenging the automobile's hegemony in the street, particularly by highlighting how to develop urban cycling. The article contributes to this task by explaining how one type of conflict between the bike and ...

The new era of shared economy has raised our expectations to make mobility more sustainable through better utilization of existing resources and capacity. In this thesis, we focus on the design of transport systems that stimulate multi-purpose trips with t ...

Car sharing systems (CSSs) are one of the environmentally beneficial solutions in urban transportation. However, the operators still struggle to make these systems profitable. One of the main contributors in operational cost is rebalancing operations. Ther ...

We explain the construction of minimal tilting complexes for objects of highest weight categories and we study in detail the minimal tilting complexes for standard objects and simple objects. For certain categories of representations of complex simple Lie ...

In ride-sharing, commuters with similar itineraries share a vehicle for their trip. Despite its clear benefits in terms of reduced congestion, ride-sharing is not yet widely accepted. We propose a specific ride-sharing variant, where drivers are completely ...

In a context where daily car use is a spontaneous and habitual choice for a wide majority of the population, the quality of the alternatives to individual motorized vehicles is a major factor in encouraging modal shift. The ease of access to public transpo ...

Behavioral states can influence performance of goal-directed sensorimotor tasks. Yet, it is unclear how altered neuronal sensory representations in these states relate to task performance and learning. We trained water-restricted mice in a two-whisker disc ...

Dedicated bus lanes provide a low cost and easily implementable strategy to improve transit service by minimizing congestion-related delays. Identifying the best spatial distribution of bus-only lanes in order to maximize traffic performance of an urban ne ...

We classify the spherical birational sheets in a complex simple simply-connected algebraic group. We use the classification to show that, when G is a connected reductive complex algebraic group with simply-connected derived subgroup, two conjugacy classes ...

Social change is at the center of solutions to the problems of the environment. Yet social change is sometimes elusively described. Through empirical inquiries guided by socialization theories, the present article aims to identify different types of indivi ...

Recent advances in the network-level traffic flow modelling provide an efficient tool for analyzing traffic performance of large-scale networks. A relationship between density and flow at the network level is developed and widely studied, namely the macros ...

Pedestrian mobility is at the center of urban transportation systems. Therefore, understanding it is a necessary task to improve the mobility in cities. However, pedestrian mobility is extremely complex, and advance methods are needed to capture its dynami ...

Although ‘arrival infrastructure’ is central to the experience of migrants arriving in a new city, is it sufficient to form a ‘hospitable milieu’? Our article compares newcomers’ experiences with ‘arrival infrastructure’ in two European cities: Brussels an ...

Buses operating in mixed traffic experience problems with delay and travel time variability in peak periods. Numerous transit priority measures are found in the literature but most rely on separating buses from other vehicles. Complete separation such as d ...

Urbanization intensifies as a global trend, exposing transportation networks to ever increasing levels of congestion. As network usage increases with available infrastructure, building new roads is not a solution. Design of intelligent transportation syste ...

The new era of sharing information and "big data" has raised our expectations to make mobility more predictable and controllable through a better utilization of data and existing resources. The realization of these opportunities requires going beyond the e ...
