The extraction of shallow geothermal energy using borehole heat exchangers (BHEs) is a promising approach for decarbonisation of the heating sector. However, a dense deployment of BHEs may lead to thermal interference between neighboring boreholes and ther ...

AC-specific heat measurements remain as the foremost thermodynamic experimental method to underpin phase transitions in tiny samples. However, its performance under combined extreme conditions of high-pressure, very low temperature and intense magnetic fie ...

By the late nineteenth century, the scientific study of bedload transport had emerged as an offshoot of hydraulics and geomorphology. Since then, computing bedload transport rates has attracted considerable attention, but whereas other environmental scienc ...

The binary Re1-xMox alloys, known to cover the full range of solid solutions, were successfully synthesized and their crystal structures and physical properties investigated via powder x-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and ...

Controlled melting and solidification in encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs) is of practical interest, for example, in latent heat storage applications. The choice of PCMs and the dynamic heat transfer characteristics during phase change - affecting ...

Thermal engineering of metal-organic frameworks for adsorption-based applications is very topical in view of their industrial potential, in particular, since heat management and thermal stability have been identified as important obstacles. Hence, a fundam ...

Room temperature ionic liquids are salts which are molten at or around room temperature without any added solvent or solution. In bulk they exhibit glass like dependence of conductivity with temperature as well as coupling of structural and transport prope ...

Metal–organic frameworks show both fundamental interest and great promise for applications in adsorption-based technologies, such as the separation and storage of gases. The flexibility and complexity of the molecular scaffold pose a considerable challenge ...

Building on the growing evidence based on NMR, magnetization, neutron scattering, electron spin resonance, and specific heat that, under pressure, SrCu2(BO3)(2) has an intermediate phase between the dimer and the Neel phase, we study the competition betwee ...

We report magnetic properties of a 3d(9) (Cu2+) magnetic insulator Cu2OSO4 measured on both powder and single crystal. The magnetic atoms of this compound form layers whose geometry can be described either as a system of chains coupled through dimers or as ...

We report that Cu9O2(SeO3)(4)Cl-6 is a new multiferroic compound. Comprehensive studies of this compound have been carried out on single crystals as well as polycrystalline samples. Magnetic susceptibility chi and specific heat C with H parallel to c axis ...

Water-in-salt electrolytes have enabled the development of novel high-voltage aqueous lithium-ion batteries. This study explores the reasons why analogous sodium electrolytes have struggled to reach the same level of electrochemical stability. Solution str ...
