Euclid is poised to make significant advances in the study of nearby galaxies in the Local Universe. Here we present a first look at six galaxies observed for the Nearby Galaxy Showcase as part of the Euclid Early Release Observations acquired between Augu ...

Deep surveys have helped to unveil the history of past and present galaxy mergers, and, in particular, uncovering their tidal debris and co-located globular clusters (GCs). Euclid’s unique combination of capabilities (spatial resolution, depth, and wide sk ...

We report the spectroscopic analysis of 10 satellite galaxy candidates in the sphere of influence of the Sombrero galaxy (M104, NGC4594), based on data obtained with IFUM (integral field units for Magellan). Based on their newly observed recessional veloci ...

Aims. We present a set of photometric catalogues primarily aimed at providing the community with a comprehensive database for the study of galaxy populations in the high-redshift Universe. The set gathers data from eight JWST NIRCam observational programs, ...

We investigate the absolute calibration of the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) using small amplitude red giant stars (SARGs) classified by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE). We show that all stars ne ...

Context. Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3) provides a wealth of new data products for the astronomical community to exploit, including astrophysical parameters for half a billion stars. In this work, we demonstrate the high quality of these data products and illus ...

Context. This paper presents a study of the galaxy Lyman-alpha luminosity function (LF) using a large sample of 17 lensing clusters observed by the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) at the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT). The magnification resulting ...

A B S T R A C T Ultra-metal-poor stars ( [Fe / H] < -4 . 0) are very rare, and finding them is a challenging task. Both narrow-band photometry and low-resolution spectroscopy have been useful tools for identifying candidates, and in this work, we combine b ...

Detailed chemical abundances of very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] < -2) stars are important for better understanding the first stars, early star formation, and chemical enrichment of galaxies. Big on-going and coming high-resolution spectroscopic surveys provid ...

We present a search for extremely red, dust-obscured, z > 7 galaxies with JWST/NIRCam+MIRI imaging over the first 20 arcmin(2) of publicly available Cycle 1 data from the COSMOS-Web, CEERS, and PRIMER surveys. Based on their red color in F277W-F444W (simil ...

Aims. We explore correlations between the strength of metallicity gradients in Local Group dwarf galaxies and their stellar mass, star formation history timescales, and environment. Methods. We performed a homogeneous analysis of literature spectroscopic d ...

SubHalo Abundance Matching (SHAM) is an empirical method for constructing galaxy catalogues based on high-resolution N-body simulations. We apply SHAM on the UNIT simulation to simulate SDSS BOSS/eBOSS luminous red galaxies (LRGs) within a wide redshift ra ...

Shell galaxies make a class of tidally distorted galaxies, characterized by wide concentric arc(s), extending out to large galactocentric distances with sharp outer edges. Recent observations of young massive star clusters in the prominent outer shell of N ...

We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST) photometry of 17 Cepheids in open clusters and their cluster mean parallaxes from Gaia EDR3. These parallaxes are more precise than those from individual Cepheids (G < 8 mag) previously used to measure the Hubble con ...

Aims. We aim to demonstrate the scientific potential of the Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) for the study of different aspects of the Milky Way structure and evolution and we provide, at the same time, a description of several practical aspects of the dat ...

The Complete Calibration of the Colour-Redshift Relation survey (C3R2) is a spectroscopic e ffort involving ESO and Keck facilities designed specifically to empirically calibrate the galaxy colour-redshift relation - P(z jC) to the Euclid depth (iAB = 24 : ...

The H0LiCOWcollaboration inferred via strong gravitational lensing time delays a Hubble constant value of H0 = 73 :3+1:7 1:8 km s 1 Mpc 1, describing deflector mass density profiles by either a power-law or stars (constant mass-to-light ratio) plus standar ...

Advances in astronomy led to the demand for measuring the spectra of multiple night sky objects simultaneously. Some of these Multi-Object Spectrographs use robotic systems that position optical fibers in the focal plane of the observing telescope. These s ...

Context. The first Gaia Data Release contains the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS). This is a subset of about 2 million stars for which, besides the position and photometry, the proper motion and parallax are calculated using Hipparcos and Tycho-2 po ...

We probe the feasibility of describing the structure of a multicomponent axisymmetric galaxy with a dynamical model based on the Jeans equations while taking into account a third integral of motion. We demonstrate that using the third integral in the form ...
