Low throughput is one of dissolution Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (dDNP) main shortcomings. Especially for clinical and preclinical applications, where direct 13C nuclei polarization is usually pursued, it takes hours to generate one single hyperpolarized ...

Solid-state NMR can provide information about the atomic level structure and dynamics of materials. It directly probes symmetry and structure at nuclear sites, and is especially useful for investigation of disordered or amorphous solids that lack long rang ...

By analogy to heat and mass transfer film theory, a general approach is introduced for determining hyperpolarization transfer rates between dilute electron spins and a surrounding nuclear ensemble. These analyses provide new quantitative relationships for ...

The properties of a physical system only exist in relation to its environment. This thesis presents the development of a novel spin qubit scanning probe microscope operating over a wide range of environmental conditions. The qubit, which sits at the heart ...

Lanthanide atoms on surfaces are an exceptional platform for atomic-scale magnetic information storage. However, their potential as qubits remains unexplored due to the limited number of experimental setups that can coherently drive the spins of single ada ...

Dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP) is a powerful technique that enhances the magnetic resonance signal of nuclear spins by several orders of magnitude. DNP relies on the principle of cross-relaxation by electron spins driven out of equilibrium ...

This thesis is devoted to the investigation of static and dynamic properties of two different sets of quantum magnets with neutron scattering techniques and the help of linear spin wave theory. Both systems are copper-based with spin-1/2, which makes them ...

The sensitivity of NMR spectroscopy is considerably enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). In DNP polarization is transferred from unpaired electrons of a polarizing agent to nearby proton spins. In solids, this transfer is followed by the transpo ...

We provide a theoretical description of dynamical heterogeneities in glass-forming liquids, based on the premise that relaxation occurs via local rearrangements coupled by elasticity. In our framework, the growth of the dynamical correlation length e and o ...

Sonosensitive perfluorocarbon F(8)TAC(18)-PFOB emulsion is under development to enhance heating, increase thermal contrast, and reduce treatment times during focused ultrasound tumor ablation of highly perfused tissue. The emulsion previously showed enhanc ...

Method for the preparation of a sample comprising highly polarized nuclear spins, comprising at least the following steps: a) bringing a polarization system, which using an electrochemical reaction can be converted into an EPR-active radical form thereof, ...

We propose a practical implementation of a two-qubit entanglement engine which denotes a scheme to generate quantum correlations through purely dissipative processes. On a diamond platform, the electron spin transitions of two nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers ...

The spin relaxation time in solids is determined by several competing energy scales and processes, and distinct methods are called for to analyze the various regimes. We present a stochastic model for the spin dynamics in solids which is equivalent to solv ...

We performed magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) on healthy individuals with tinnitus and no hearing loss (n = 16) vs. a matched control group (n = 17) to further elucidate the role of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in tinnitus. Two-dimensio ...

The entropy change during spin relaxation for a realistic model system is studied, whose spin dynamics can be handled with the Boltzmann equation. The time evolution of the von Neumann entropy is monitored during the process and is compared with the recent ...

We present a(1)H NMR investigation of spin dynamics in two finite integer spin molecular nanomagnetic rings, namely V7Zn and V7Ni. This study could be put in correlation with the problem of Haldane gap in infinite integer spin chains. While V7Zn is an appr ...

Solid-state NMR can provide information about the atomic-level microstructure and dynamics in materials as it directly probes the local nuclear environment. In the last decade, halide perovskites have drawn intense interest because of their intriguing opto ...

Method for detecting a change in molecular tumbling of an electron-spin labelled system (1) in solution. Nuclear spins of the entire solution are measured in solution using Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization in a first reference measurement, and then ...

This thesis investigates the magnetic properties of single atoms and dimers adsorbed on graphene and oxide decoupling layers supported by single crystal metal substrates, using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spin-polarized scanning tunneling micro ...
