The recent rise in interest in point clouds as an imaging modality has motivated standardization groups such as JPEG and MPEG to launch activities aiming at developing compression standards for point clouds. Lossy compression usually introduces visual arti ...

In the field of image acquisition, Dynamic Vision Sensors (DVS) present an innovative methodology, capturing only the variations in pixel brightness instead of absolute values and thereby revealing unique features. Given that the primary deployment of DVS ...

Despite the increasing understanding of bentonite behaviour, there is still missing evidence on how different hydro-mechanical loadings, including sequences of hydration and compression, affect the fabric and the volume change behaviour of the material. It ...

Due to the increasing number of pictures captured and stored every day by and on digital devices, lossy image compression has become inevitable to limit the needed storage requirement. As a consequence, these compression methods might introduce some visual ...

Lyra2REv2 is a hashing algorithm that consists of a chain of individual hashing algorithms, and it is used as a proof-of-work function in several cryptocurrencies. The most crucial and exotic hashing algorithm in the Lyra2REv2 chain is a specific instance ...

The rapid development of digital imaging and video has placed visual contents in the heart of our lives. Digital multimedia span a vast number of areas from business to leisure, including but not limited to education, medicine, accessibility, training, adv ...

Lyra2REv2 is a hashing algorithm that consists of a chain of individual hashing algorithms and it is used as a proof-of-work function in several cryptocurrencies that aim to be ASIC-resistant. The most crucial hashing algorithm in the Lyra2REv2 chain is a ...

Key-Value (K-V) stores are an integral building block in modern datacenter applications. With byteaddressable persistent memory (PM) technologies, such as Intel/Micron's 3D XPoint, on the horizon, there has been an influx of new high performance K-V stores ...

Non-volatile RAM (NVRAM) makes it possible for data structures to tolerate transient failures, assuming however that programmers have designed these structures such that their consistency is preserved upon recovery. Previous ap- proaches are typically tran ...

This paper presents elastic transactions, an appealing alternative to traditional transactions, in particular to implement search structures in shared memory multicore architectures. Upon conflict detection, an elastic transaction might drop what it did so ...

Non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies such as PCM, ReRAM and STT-RAM allow processors to directly write values to persistent storage at speeds that are significantly faster than previous durable media such as hard drives or SSDs. Many applications of NVM ...

The recent advances in light field imaging, supported among others by the introduction of commercially available cameras e.g. Lytro or Raytrix, are changing the ways in which visual content is captured and processed. Efficient storage and delivery systems ...

We introduce OPTIK, a new practical design pattern for designing and implementing fast and scalable concurrent data structures. OPTIK relies on the commonly-used technique of version numbers for detecting conflicting concurrent operations. We show how to i ...

The shift of commodity hardware from single- to multi-core processors in the early 2000s compelled software developers to take advantage of the available parallelism of multi-cores. Unfortunately, only few---so-called embarrassingly parallel---applications ...

This paper reports results of subjective and objective quality assessments of responses to a grand challenge on light field image compression. The goal of the challenge was to collect and evaluate new compression algorithms for light field images. In total ...

In-memory databases rely on pointer-intensive data structures to quickly locate data in memory. A single lookup operation in such data structures often exhibits long-latency memory stalls due to dependent pointer dereferences. Hiding the memory latency by ...

A computer-implemented method for determining the Walsh-Hadamard transform of N samples of a signal, comprises electing a plurality of hashing C matrices Σ1, . . . ΣC, computing C hashes of a particular length based at least on a hashing front end and the ...

We provide a security analysis for full-state keyed Sponge and full-state Duplex constructions. Our results can be used for making a large class of Sponge-based authenticated encryption schemes more efficient by concurrent absorption of associated data and ...

We propose pure OMD (p-OMD) as a new variant of the Offset Merkle-Damgård (OMD) authenticated encryption scheme. Our new scheme inherits all desirable security features of OMD while having a more compact structure and providing higher efficiency. The origi ...
