The diversity of experimentally observed nonlinear coherent and partially coherent optical structures, including breathing, zero-dispersion, and switching wave states in driven optical microresonators, is mainly provided by cavity dispersion engineering. R ...

The model underlying physics of guiding light in single-mode fibers-the one-dimensional nonlinear Schr & ouml;dinger equation (NLSE)-reveals a remarkable balance of the fiber dispersion and nonlinearity, leading to the existence of optical solitons. With t ...

Applications such as optical clocks, gas spectroscopy, and optical coherent tomography stand to benefit significantly from the integration of on-chip supercontinuum sources. Materials exhibiting both second- and third-order nonlinearities are particularly ...

All physical processes can be described, at a fundamental level, through interactions of elementary particles. The Standard Model of particle physics (SM) describes three of the four known fundamental forces and all of the known elementary particles. The a ...

We theoretically and experimentally investigate the formation of dissipative coherent structures in Kerr nonlinear optical microresonators, whose spectrum encompasses an integrated dispersion that exceeds the cavity free-spectral range. We are able to acce ...

One of the main goals of studying semileptonic decays in flavor physics is to gain a better understanding of hadronic transitions in the nonperturbative region of Quantum Chromodynamics. This involves measuring Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, un ...

Keeping up with our constantly connected lifestyle of instant messages and video streaming has its repercussions. Data centers have been gobbling up resources becoming a significant share of the energy used worldwide. To keep up with demand and curb the en ...

Advanced wave engineering demands robust, efficient, and new-degree-of-freedom manipulations in wave intrinsic properties like amplitude, phase, polarization, and even spatial structure. To tackle this, this thesis advances photonic wave manipulation by sy ...

In the quest for controlling materials' properties, light as an external stimulus has a special place as it can create new states of matter and enable their ultrafast manipulation. In particular, spintronics, an exciting emergent field relying on the elect ...

We report a novel approach to distributed optical fiber sensing that achieves strain-only measurement with no intrinsic temperature cross-sensitivity. This is accomplished by filling the microstructured cladding of a photonic crystal fiber with a simple ga ...

Context. Geminga is the third gamma-ray pulsar firmly detected by imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) after the Crab and the Vela pulsars. Most of its emission is expected at tens of giga-electronvolts, and, out of the planned telescopes of th ...

Using (27.12 +/- 0.14) x 10(8) psi(2S) events collected by the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII, we search for the decay eta(c) (2S) -> p (p) over bar via the process psi(2S) -> gamma eta(c)(2S) and only find a signal with a significance of 1.7 sigma. T ...

The interplay of topological characteristics in real space and reciprocal space can lead to the emergence of unconventional topological phases. In this Letter, we implement a novel mechanism for generating higher-Chern flat bands on the basis of twisted bi ...

Integrated optics has shown itself very convenient for exploiting nonlinear processes as it results in high confinement factor, freedom of dispersion engineering and compactness. However, the choice of materials is crucial for the development of nonlinear ...

Optical parametric oscillators enable the conversion of pump light to new frequency bands using nonlinear optical processes. Recent advances in integrated nonlinear photonics have led to the creation of compact, chip-scale sources via Kerr-nonlinearity-ind ...

Solitons are shape preserving waveforms that are ubiquitous across nonlinear dynamical systems from BEC to hydrodynamics, and fall into two separate classes: bright solitons existing in anomalous group velocity dispersion, and switching waves forming 'dark ...

The past decade has witnessed major advances in the development and system-level applications of photonic integrated microcombs, that are coherent, broadband optical frequency combs with repetition rates in the millimeter-wave to terahertz domain. Most of ...

Using phase-modulation-induced potential gradient whose period is synchronized to a microwave opto-electronic oscillator, dissipative Kerr solitons generated in a crystalline optical microresonator are trapped by the soliton tweezing effect, exhibiting a s ...

A photonic dimer composed of two evanescently coupled high-Q microresonators is a fundamental element of multimode soliton lattices. It has demonstrated a variety of emergent nonlinear phenomena, including supermode soliton generation and soliton hopping. ...

Skyrmions have been well studied in chiral magnets and magnetic thin films due to their potential application in practical devices. Recently, monochiral skyrmions have been observed in twodimensional van der Waals magnets. Their atomically flat surfaces an ...
