Purpose: Although clinical 7T MRI offers various advantages compared to lower field strengths, achieving spatially uniform flip angle distributions remains a challenge. Sampling Perfection with Application optimized Contrast using different flip angle Evol ...

We report a novel approach to distributed optical fiber sensing that achieves strain-only measurement with no intrinsic temperature cross-sensitivity. This is accomplished by filling the microstructured cladding of a photonic crystal fiber with a simple ga ...

The integration of 2D materials with optical fibers enables multifunctional fiber devices, such as polarizers, modulators, and sensors. Recent advances in direct vapor deposition growth further enhance light‐2D material interactions to centimeter‐scale len ...

Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) is a powerful imaging technique that enables the visualization of biological samples at the molecular level by measuring the fluorescence decay rate of fluorescent probes. This provides critical information a ...

This paper proposes and experimentally validates a distributed temperature alarm system based on carbon dioxide (CO2)-filled 18 m side air-holes fiber (SAHF), interrogated through a conventional (incoherent) optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR). Custom ...

Fluorescence confocal laser-scanning microscopy (LSM) is one of the most popular tools for life science research. This popularity is expected to grow thanks to single-photon array detectors tailored for LSM. These detectors offer unique single-photon spati ...

Depth sensing is an increasingly important feature in many applications of consumer, automotive, augmented/virtual reality (AR-VR), space and bio-medical imaging. Long range, high depth resolution, high spatial resolution, and high frame rates are often co ...

Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) is an imaging modality often used to monitor biochemical properties of a cell or a tissue. In addition to conventional fluorescence microscopy features, such as selective labeling and non-invasiveness, FLIM e ...

Optical parametric amplification is a promising alternative to traditional erbium-doped amplifiers, offering unidirectional, low-noise, and broadband amplification. Here we present an integrated continuous-traveling-wave parametric amplifier that surpasses ...

Significance: Fluorescence guidance is used clinically by surgeons to visualize anatomical and/or physiological phenomena in the surgical field that are difficult or impossible to detect by the naked eye. Such phenomena include tissue perfusion or molecula ...

Progress in optics technology has enriched our daily lives in many ways. Various types of single-photon detector technologies have emerged in the last century. Among these, single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) technology outperforms other detectors for its ...

The proliferation of microscopy methods for live-cell imaging offers many new possibilities for users but can also be challenging to navigate. The prevailing challenge in live-cell fluorescence microscopy is capturing intra-cellular dynamics while preservi ...

We introduce a new generation of 3D imaging devices based on quantum plenoptic imaging. Position-momentum entanglement and photon number correlations are exploited to provide a scan-free 3D image after post-processing of the collected light intensity signa ...

Spectral imaging is a fundamental diagnostic technique with widespread application. Conventional spectral imaging approaches have intrinsic limitations on spatial and spectral resolutions due to the physical components they rely on. To overcome these physi ...

Rhodamines are the most important class of fluorophores for applications in live-cell fluorescence microscopy. This is mainly because rhodamines exist in a dynamic equilibrium between a fluorescent zwitterion and a nonfluorescent but cell-permeable spirocy ...

Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) describes a family of powerful imaging techniques that dramatically improve spatial resolution over standard, diffraction-limited microscopy techniques and can image biological structures at the molecular scal ...

Accurate characterization of in utero human brain maturation is critical as it involves complex interconnected structural and functional processes that may influence health later in life. Magnetic resonance imaging is a powerful tool complementary to the u ...

Optical microscopy is an essential tool for biologists, who are often faced with the need to overcome the spatial and temporal resolution limitations of their devices to capture finer details. As upgrading imaging hardware is expensive, computational metho ...

The invention relates to an integrated imaging system comprising: - an array of analog photomultiplier elements - a plurality of submodules, each submodule having a number of the photomultiplier elements; - a plurality of time-to-digital converters each as ...

Imaging live cells in their native environment is crucial for the understanding of complex biological phenomena. Modern optical microscopy methods such as fluorescence super-resolution microscopy are increasingly combined with complementary, label-free tec ...
