Benzenetricarboxamide (BTA) derivatives are versatile compounds widely employed as nucleating agents in commercial semicrystalline plastics and as supramolecular ligands in self-assembling telechelic polymer-based organogels, hydrogels, and bulk elastomers ...

On-surface synthesis has become a prominent method for growing low-dimensional carbon-based nanomaterials on metal surfaces. However, the necessity of decoupling organic nanostructures from metal substrates to exploit their properties requires either trans ...

To rank the performanceof materials for a given carbon captureprocess, we rely on pure component isotherms from which we predictthe mixture isotherms. For screening a large number of materials,we also increasingly rely on isotherms predicted from molecular ...

Dinitrogen cleavage provides an attractive but poorly studied route to the assembly of multimetallic nitride clusters. Here, we show that the monoelectron reduction of the dinitrogen complex [{U(OC6H2-Bu-3(t)-2,4,6)(3)}(2)(mu-eta(2):eta(2)-N-2)], 1, allows ...

The geometry of biomolecules isolated in the gas phaseusuallydiffers substantially from their native structures in aqueous solution, which are the only ones truly relevant to life science. To connectthe high resolution of cold ion spectroscopy that can be a ...

Aminoacids and peptides generally exhibit zwitterionic forms withsalt bridge (SB) structures in solution but charge-solvated (CS) motifsin the gas phase. Here, we report a study of non-covalent complexesof the protonated amino acid arginine, ArgH(+)(H2O)( ...

Regulating the local microenvironment of active sites to increase their specific CO2 concentration and pH gradient, is a promising approach to optimize the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (eCO(2)RR). However, currently reported morphological strateg ...

Polarimetric angle-resolved second-harmonic scattering (AR-SHS) is an all-optical tool enabling the study of unlabeled interfaces of nano-sized particles in an aqueous solution. As the second harmonic signal is modulated by interference between nonlinear c ...

We present a first-principles investigation of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of the pristine and Fe-doped alpha-MnO2 using density-functional theory with extended Hubbard functionals. The onsite U and intersite V Hubbard parameters ar ...

Lignin is an abundant renewable carbon source. Due to its complex structure, utilization of lignin is very challenging. Herein, we describe an efficient strategy for the simultaneous utilization of lignin, in which the methoxy groups in lignin react with c ...

A single-electron transfer (SET) oxidation of indole or benzo[b]thiophene to a radical cation reverses the intrinsic polarity of these pi-excessive bicyclic heteroarenes. Here we report an oxidative two-carbon homologation of cyclobutanols to cyclohexenone ...

Among the 14 lanthanide elements (Ce-Lu), until recently, the tetravalent oxidation state was readily accessible in solution only for cerium while Pr(iv), Nd(iv), Dy(iv) and Tb(iv) had only been detected in the solid state. The triphenylsiloxide ligand rec ...

Activation of the dinitrogen triple bond is a crucial step in the overall fixation of atmospheric nitrogen into usable forms for industrial and biological applications. Current synthetic catalysts incorporate metal ions to facilitate the activation and cle ...

Corrosion is one of the main end-of-life degradation and failure modes in photovoltaic (PV) modules. However, it is a gradual process and can take many years to become a major risk factor because of the slow accumulation of water and acetic acid (from enca ...

Antibodies are an attractive therapeutic modality for cancer treatment as they allow the increase of the treatment response rate and avoid the severe side effects of chemotherapy. Notwithstanding the strong benefit of antibodies, the efficacy of anti-cance ...

Si-32 (T-1/2 = 153(19) y) is an extremely rare, naturally-occurring isotope that has been considered as a geochronometer suitable for radiometric dating over the time span from 100 to 1000 years ago - a time span that has proved rather difficult to explore ...

Colour is at the core of chemistry and has been fascinating humans since ancient times. It is also a key descriptor of optoelectronic properties of materials and is often used to assess the success of a synthesis. However, predicting the colour of a materi ...

Organic radicals are highly active species that can undergo various transformations. Electrochemistry and photochemistry are efficient methods for the generation of these species of high energy, through single electron transfer processes under mild conditi ...
