Optical parametric amplification is a promising alternative to traditional erbium-doped amplifiers, offering unidirectional, low-noise, and broadband amplification. Here we present an integrated continuous-traveling-wave parametric amplifier that surpasses ...

The ability to amplify optical signals is of pivotal importance across science and technology typically using rare-earth-doped fibres or gain media based on III-V semiconductors. A different physical process to amplify optical signals is to use the Kerr no ...

Continuous progress in the development of light sources for the generation of tunable ultrashort pulses from the near-infrared to all the visible range provides a very efficient tool for spectroscopic techniques able to follow ultrafast dynamical processes ...

We report on nonlinear frequency conversion from the telecom range via second harmonic generation (SHG) and third harmonic generation (THG) in suspended gallium nitride slab photonic crystal (PhC) cavities on silicon, under continuous-wave resonant excitat ...

Modulation instability (MI) as the main limit to the sensing distance of distributed fiber sensors is thoroughly investigated in this thesis in order to obtain a model for predicting its characteristics and alleviating its effects. Starting from Maxwell's ...

We report on high-energy terahertz pulses by optical rectification (OR) in the organic crystal N-benzyl-2-methyl-4-nitroaniline (BNA) directly pumped by a conventional Ti: sapphire amplifier. The simple scheme provides an optical-to-terahertz conversion ef ...

We present a numerical parametric study of single-cycle electromagnetic pulse generation in a DAST/SiO2 multilayer structure via collinear optical rectification of 800 nm femtosecond laser pulses. It is shown that modifications of the thicknesses of the DA ...

Sensing using surface plasmon resonances is one of the most promising practical applications of plasmonic nanostructures and Fano resonances allow achieving a lower detection limit thanks to their narrow spectral features. However, a narrow spectral width ...

Optical frequency combs allow for the precise measurement of optical frequencies and are used in a growing number of applications. The new class of Kerr-frequency comb sources, based on parametric frequency conversion in optical microresonators, can comple ...

Recently developed synthesis methods allow for the production of atomically monodisperse clusters of silver atoms stabilized in solution by aromatic thiol ligands, which exhibit intense absorption peaks throughout the visible and near-IR spectral regions. ...

Powerful THz radiation confined in one field period or less is an adequate tool for triggering nonlinear actions. We show results towards the realization of a tunable high-power THz source based on a laser-driven frequency conversion scheme in plasma and n ...
