Tribological response of multilayered gold nickel coating deposited on fine turned surfaces

Résumé

Gold coating are widely used in industry due to their corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity and low contact resistance. However, friction and wear can limit their functionality and lifetime. This study addresses the degradation of a commercial finely turned brass surface coated with an adhesion chromium layer, a NiP hard coating and finally at the surface by a self-lubricating gold layer.

L'or est l'élément chimique de numéro atomique 79, de symbole Au. Ce symbole, choisi par Berzelius, est formé des deux premières lettres du mot latin aurum (de même sens). Le corps simple or est un métal noble, un métal précieux coloré précisément en jaune d'or, matière pure dense, très ductile et molle, facile à travailler, parfois simplement à la main et au bâton, connue de toute antiquité, appréciée pour son fort éclat de « petit soleil », en particulier sous forme de diverses parures depuis la fin du néolithique (début du chalcolithique) ou de pièces de monnaie depuis l'Antiquité, et très recherchée, avec l'argent, depuis les temps historiques pour sa fonction monétaire déterminante.

Plating

Plating is a finishing process in which a metal is deposited on a surface. Plating has been done for hundreds of years; it is also critical for modern technology. Plating is used to decorate objects, for corrosion inhibition, to improve solderability, to harden, to improve wearability, to reduce friction, to improve paint adhesion, to alter conductivity, to improve IR reflectivity, for radiation shielding, and for other purposes. Jewelry typically uses plating to give a silver or gold finish.
