There is currently an emerging drive towards computational materials design and fabrication of predicted novel materials. One of the keys to developing appropriate fabrication methods is determination of the composition and phase. Here we explore the FeGe ...

We consider a Gross-Pitaevskii equation which appears as a model in the description of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates, without a confining external trapping potential. We describe the asymptotic dynamics of solutions to the corresponding Cauchy problem ...

The bidentate carboxamide ligand N-(thiazole-2-yl) picolinamide (LH) was synthesized in the environmentally friendly ionic liquid TBAB, and the five-coordinated Cu-II-complex, [Cu(L)(2)(H2O)]center dot CHCl3 (1) was synthesized from LH and copper(II)acetat ...

A strong coupling of the lattice to functional properties is observed in many transition metal oxide systems, such as the ABO(3) perovskites. In the quest for tailor-made materials, it is essential to be able to control the structural properties of the com ...

Understanding and controlling the electronic structure of thin layers of quantum materials is a crucial first step towards designing heterostructures where new phases and phenomena, including the metal-insulator transition (MIT), emerge. Here, we demonstra ...

Preliminary results investigating the microstructure, bonding and effect of beryllium oxide formation on retention in the JET ITER-like wall beryllium tiles, are presented. The tiles have been investigated by several techniques: Scanning Electron Microscop ...

In the present study the transformation between Cu2SnS3, Cu3SnS4 and Cu4SnS4 compounds is analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering spectroscopy. A detailed analysis of the X-ray diffractograms showed the dependence of formation of the in ...

Eigenmodes are central to the study of resonant phenomena in all areas of physics. However, their use in nano-optics seems to have been hindered and delayed for various reasons. First, due to their small size, the response of nanostructures to a far-field ...

We present a combined oxygen K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) study of the bilayer ruthenate Ca3Ru2O7. Our RIXS experiments on Ca3Ru2O7 were carried out on the overlapping planar and interplanar oxygen res ...

Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) is an extremely valuable tool for the study of elementary, including magnetic, excitations in matter. The latest developments of this technique have mostly been aimed at improving the energy resolution and perform ...

Interaction effects can change materials properties in intriguing ways, and they have, in general, a huge impact on electronic spectra. In particular, satellites in photoemission spectra are pure many-body effects, and their study is of increasing interest ...

Beryllium limiter marker tiles were exposed to plasma in the Joint European Torus to diagnose the erosion of main chamber wall materials. A limiter marker tile consists of a beryllium coating layer (7-9 mu m) on the top of bulk beryllium, with a nickel int ...

One-dimensional microrods (4-5 mm) of PbI2 and CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3)) with unique structural and morphological properties have been grown at room temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of both types of micro-rods exhibit a hexagonal system (P3m1(164) ...

The possibility of performing electron density and temperature measurements in a high power helicon plasma is a crucial issue in the framework of the AWAKE (Advanced WAKefield Experiment) project, which demonstrates acceleration of particles using GeV m(-1 ...

In this work, a simple procedure for the preparation of an inkjet printed disposable graphene electrode is reported. Commercial graphene ink was printed on a kapton substrate and the resulting electrode was 30 min treated by oxygen plasma, then modified by ...

In recent years, topology gained a central role in physics. We learnt that energetics could be often explained better by classes of objects defined by having qualitative differences. In today's jargon, we say they are topologically distinct. The process of ...

Model materials are precious test cases for elementary theories and provide building blocks for the understanding of more complex cases. Here, we describe the lattice dynamics of the structural phase transition in francisite Cu3Bi(SeO3)(2)O2Cl at 115 K and ...

This thesis presents a quantum-state-resolved molecular beam study of the non-reactive scattering of methane (CH4) from a Ni(111) surface. It is one of the first experimental investigations in which the internal quantum state distribution of a polyatomic m ...
