Recent state-to-state experiments of methane scattering from Ni(111) and graphene-covered Ni(111) combined with quantum mechanical simulations suggest an intriguing correlation between the surface-induced vibrational energy redistribution (SIVR) during the ...

Strain is inevitable in two-dimensional (2D) materials, regardless of whether the film is suspended or supported. However, the direct measurement of strain response at the atomic scale is challenging due to the difficulties of maintaining both flexibility ...

In the first chapter of this thesis, the development of two new reactions for the synthesis of vinyl ketenimines and alpha-oxo-ketenimines from isocyanides is presented. These palladium-catalyzed transformations both feature an isocyanide insertion / beta- ...

Two dicopper (II) complexes of general formula CuLX2 {L = 2, 5-diphenyl-3, 4(2-pyridyl) cyclopenta-2, 4-dien-1-one, X = Cl (1) or Br (2)} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis spectroscopic methods. The crystal stru ...

The accumulation of various contaminants in air, soil and water is threatening the natural environment. The remediation of the environmental contaminations is today an urge. Among the remediation methods employed, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are a ...

Organic ligands are used in homogeneous catalysis to tune the metal center reactivity; in contrast, clean surfaces are usually preferred in heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, we demonstrate the potential of a molecular chemistry approach to develop efficient ...

The mass-utilization of fossil resources has led to a dramatic increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) production, most of which is released directly into the Earth's atmosphere, resulting in global warming. Efforts to contain CO2 emissions and to capture, store ...

Ionic liquids (ILs) are versatile solvents and catalysts for the synthesis of quinazoline-2,4-dione from 2-aminobenzonitrile and CO2. However, the role of the IL in this reaction is poorly understood. Consequently, we investigated this reaction and showed ...

In homogeneous catalysis, the main emphasis on improving catalyst performance (rate, yield and selectivity) is directed towards manipulation of the ligands. The steric and electronic effects of ligands are extremely well understood and the rational design ...

The selective functionalization of peptides containing only natural amino acids is important for the modification of biomolecules. In particular, the installation of an alkyne as a useful handle for bioconjugation is highly attractive, but the use of a car ...

Carbocycles are essential building blocks for the synthesis of natural and synthetic bioactive compounds. Herein, we report the first example of palladium-catalyzed intramolecular carboalkynylation of non-activated olefins. Using activated carbonyl compoun ...

Nanoparticle (NP) catalysis is traditionally viewed as a sub-section of heterogeneous catalysis. However, certain properties of NP catalysts, especially NPs dispersed in solvents, indicate that there could be benefits from viewing them from the perspective ...

The high chemical reactivity of unsaturated metal sites is a key factor for the development of novel devices with applications in sensor engineering and catalysis. It is also central in the research for sustainable energy concepts, e.g., the efficient prod ...

Task-specific ionic liquids bearing nitrile functional groups attached to the cation and nitrogen-donor-containing anions strongly affect the efficiency of the Stille cross-coupling, influencing the nature of the catalyst and its stability. The relative st ...

The question is addressed of whether the triruthenium cluster cation Ru-3(mu(2)-H)(3)(eta(6)C(6)H(6))(eta(6)-C6Me6)(2)(mu(3)-O), 1, is a supramolecular, outer-sphere benzene hydrogenation catalyst or is 1 a precatalyst to well-known Ru(0)(n) catalysis ...
