The application of perovskite photovoltaics is hampered by issues related to the operational stability upon exposure to external stimuli, such as voltage bias and light. The dynamic control of the properties of perovskite materials in response to light cou ...

Titanium-based Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) offer remarkable mechanical, thermal, and corrosion resistance properties and are of high interest to several industrial sectors, including aerospace. One of the main commercial drawbacks of these materials, wh ...

The local undercut defects at the weld toe provide a potential initiation site for fatigue cracks and significantly impact the structure's fatigue strength. The influence of continuous undercut depth on fatigue performance is widely studied, but the resear ...

Energy-efficient windows are being used to increase the thermal insulation of a fa & ccedil;ade. Such insulating windows contain an ultra-thin, multilayered, transparent silver coating that acts as an infrared mirror which significantly reduces thermal los ...

This work addresses the need for precise control of thin film sputtering processes to enable thin film material tailoring on the example of zinc tin nitride (ZTN) thin films deposited via microwave plasma-assisted high power reactive magnetron sputtering ( ...

SPIDER is the 100 keV full-size Negative Ion Source prototype of the ITER Neutral Beam Injector, operating at Consorzio RFX in Padova, Italy. The largest Negative Ion Source in the world, SPIDER generates an RF driven plasma from which Deuterium or Hydroge ...

Strain is inevitable in two-dimensional (2D) materials, regardless of whether the film is suspended or supported. However, the direct measurement of strain response at the atomic scale is challenging due to the difficulties of maintaining both flexibility ...

The bacterial inactivation kinetics of Escherichia coli (E. coli) by innovative sputtered TiMoON and TiMoON-Ag films under simulated solar light irradiation is accounted for in a detailed, comprehensive and systematic form. This study presents the evidence ...

Injection molding is known to create a layered anisotropicmorphologyacross the sample thickness due to varying shear and cooling ratesduring the manufacturing process. In this study, scanning small-angleX-ray scattering was used to visualize and quantify t ...

The two-dimensional (2D) delamination growth in composite laminates under the Mode-II fracture condition was experimentally investigated using a novel set-up. Circular plate specimens with a centrally embedded pre-crack of two sizes were semi-clamped along ...

Integrated wearable electronics capable of providing biophysical information on complex and dynamic systems have attracted high interest in diverse fields such as healthcare, gaming and robotics. Wearable sensors can create artificial, electronic skins wit ...

Measurements of radiated power are critical for characterizing and optimizing tokamak performance. The RADCAM system, comprising arrays of foil bolometers, Absolute eXtreme UltraViolet (AXUV), and filtered soft x-ray diodes, has been constructed to provide ...

Modern manufacturing engineering is based on a ``design-through-analysis'' workflow. According to this paradigm, a prototype is first designed with Computer-aided-design (CAD) software and then finalized by simulating its physical behavior, which usually i ...

Thin film coatings are ubiquitous in modern daily lives, from the semi-conductor industry to aesthetic applications, and rely on the modification of a given material to enhance its surface properties. At CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), t ...

We present GeoNeRF, a generalizable photorealistic novel view synthesis method based on neural radiance fields. Our approach consists of two main stages: a geometry reasoner and a renderer. To render a novel view, the geometry reasoner first constructs cas ...

The design of highly glazed building has become a worldwide trend in modern architecture. However, glazing may induce large thermal loss in winter while increase cooling load in summer, and it may also cause glare. In order to solve the problems, a novel m ...

Dislocation emission from a crack tip is a necessary mechanism for crack tip blunting and toughening. A material is intrinsically ductile under Mode I loading when the critical stress intensity

K_{Ie}

for dislocation emission is lower than the critical s ...

This work describes the geometry behind the Smith chart, recent 3D Smith chart tool and previously reported conceptual Hyperbolic Smith chart. We present the geometrical properties of the transformations used in creating them by means of inversive geometry ...

We present a novel method for isogeometric analysis (IGA) to directly work on geometries constructed by Boolean operations including difference (i.e., trimming), union, and intersection. Particularly, this work focuses on the union operation, which involve ...

A novel glazing system consisting of a polymer layer with embedded micro compound parabolic concentrators (CPCs), which is attached to a glass pane of glazing, is proposed. It aims to reduce the energy consumption due to cooling in buildings, provide dayli ...
