The aim of this work is to study homogeneous stable solutions to the thin (or fractional) one -phase free boundary problem. The problem of classifying stable (or minimal) homogeneous solutions in dimensions n >= 3 is completely open. In this context, axial ...

. We study very weak solutions to scalar Euler-Lagrange equations associated with quadratic convex functionals. We investigate whether W1,1 solutions are necessarily W 1,2 Nash and Schauder applicable. We answer this question positively for a suitable clas ...

The high zinc and iron contents of electric arc furnace (EAF) dust in the forms of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) and magnetite (Fe3O4) make it a valuable secondary source of these metals. ZnFe2O4 and Fe3O4 are known to form a solid solution at all compositions, a ...

This thesis is a study of the global well-posedness of the Cauchy problems for half-wave maps from the Minkowski space of dimension n+1 to the 2-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane. The work is mainly based on the results from Krieger-Sire 17' in ...

We present a validation of a three-dimensional, two-fluid simulation of plasma turbulence in the TJ-K stellarator, a low temperature plasma experiment ideally suited for turbulence measurements. The simulation is carried out by the GBS code, recently adapt ...

We study the compact support property for solutions of the following stochastic partial differential equations: partial derivative tu=aijuxixj(t,x)+biuxi(t,x)+cu+h(t,x,u(t,x))F-center dot(t,x),(t,x)is an element of(0,infinity)xRd,where F-center dot is a sp ...

In this paper, transient granular flows are examined both numerically and experimentally. Simulations are performed using the continuous three-dimensional (3-D) granular model introduced in Daviet & Bertails-Descoubes (ACM Trans. Graph., vol. 35, no. 4, 20 ...

Weak solutions arise naturally in the study of the Navier-Stokes and Euler equations both from an abstract regularity/blow-up perspective and from physical theories of turbulence. This thesis studies the structure and size of singular set of such weak solu ...

The conjugate heat transfer in mixtures of a fluid and single granular clusters is studied in this paper using a novel lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) programmed for parallel computation on the graphics processing unit (GPU). The LBM is validated for heat c ...

Particle dampers have received considerable attention in recent years as a novel damping technique. However, due to its high degree of nonlinearity, no mature damping model has been constructed. This article proposes an equivalent raft model that takes int ...

In this thesis, we study the stochastic heat equation (SHE) on bounded domains and on the whole Euclidean space

\R^d.

We confirm the intuition that as the bounded domain increases to the whole space, both solutions become arbitrarily close to one another ...

We introduce a family of neural quantum states for the simulation of strongly interacting systems in the presence of spatial periodicity. Our variational state is parametrized in terms of a permutationally invariant part described by the Deep Sets neural-n ...

We study the elliptic curves given by y(2) = x(3) + bx + t(3n+1) over global function fields of characteristic 3 ; in particular we perform an explicit computation of the L-function by relating it to the zeta function of a certain superelliptic curve u(3) ...

For compact, isometrically embedded Riemannian manifolds N -> R-L, we introduce a fourth-order version of the wave maps equation. By energy estimates, we prove an a priori estimate for smooth local solutions in the energy subcritical dimension n = 1, 2. Th ...

Results of a three-dimensional, flux-driven, electrostatic, global, two-fluid turbulence simulation for a five-field period stellarator with an island divertor are presented. The numerical simulation is carried out with the GBS code, recently extended to s ...

Laboratory three-point bending experiments are carried out to evaluate the effect of various fluids on the tensile strength of granite. The granite specimens were tested under both dry and saturated conditions. The fluids used to saturate the granite inclu ...

We investigate the regularity of the free boundary for the Signorini problem in Rn+1. It is known that regular points are (n−1)-dimensional and C∞. However, even for C∞ obstacles φ, the set of non-regular (or degenerate) points could be very large—e.g. wit ...

Spatiotemporally chaotic dynamics of transitional plane Couette flow may give rise to regular turbulent-laminar stripe patterns with a large-scale pattern wavelength and an oblique orientation relative to the laminar flow direction. A recent dynamical syst ...

We investigate the quasi-static growth of a fluid-driven frictional shear crack that propagates in mixed mode (II+III) on a planar fault interface that separates two identical half-spaces of a three-dimensional solid. The fault interface is characterized b ...

Theory-based scaling laws of the near and far scrape-off layer (SOL) widths are analytically derived for L-mode diverted tokamak discharges by using a two-fluid model. The near SOL pressure and density decay lengths are obtained by leveraging a balance amo ...
