Chirality, a basic property of symmetry breaking, is crucial for fields such as biology and physics. Recent advances in the study of chiral systems have stimulated interest in the discovery of symmetry-breaking states that enable exotic phenomena such as s ...

Understanding and manipulating emergent phases, which are themes at the forefront of quantummaterials research, rely on identifying their underlying symmetries. This general principle has been particularly prominent in materials with coupled electronic and ...

It is well known that a family of n×n commuting matrices can be simultaneously triangularized by a unitary similarity transformation. The diagonal entries of the triangular matrices define the n joint eigenvalues of the family. In this work, we consider th ...

Among the 14 lanthanide elements (Ce-Lu), until recently, the tetravalent oxidation state was readily accessible in solution only for cerium while Pr(iv), Nd(iv), Dy(iv) and Tb(iv) had only been detected in the solid state. The triphenylsiloxide ligand rec ...

In an idealized infinite crystal, the material properties are constrained by the symmetries of the unit cell. The point-group symmetry is broken by the sample shape of any finite crystal, but this is commonly unobservable in macroscopic metals. To sense th ...

We consider a type-I seesaw framework endowed with a flavour symmetry, belonging to the series of non-abelian groups increment (3 n(2)) and increment (6 n(2)), and a CP symmetry. Breaking these symmetries in a non-trivial way results in the right-handed ne ...

Magnetic structure of the Co ions in monoclinic Co3TeO6 in the antiferroelectric state at 16 K has been determined by neutron powder together with single-crystal diffractions. The indices of the magnetic reflections that appear at the incommensurate positi ...

The crystallography of twinning is based on the concepts of simple shear and obliquity introduced by Mugge, Mallard and Friedel at the turn of the last century, with tensor mathematics later developed by Bilby, Bevis and Crocker in the 1960s. We propose a ...

Four new Schiff-bases have been synthesized from the 1:2 M condensation of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzothiazole-2,6-diamine with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (SL3), 5-Bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (SL2), 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (SL3) and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehy ...

A lanthanide-based metal-organic framework (MOF) named SION-2 displays strong and tuneable uniaxial negative thermal expansion (NTE). The coefficient of thermal expansion alpha(1) reaches -153(6) MK-1 between 100 and 340 K, which is the highest value repor ...

We study the angular scattering behavior of bianisotropic metasurfaces and deduce relationships between the corresponding symmetrical angular scattering properties and the structural symmetries of their scattering particles. This may be of practical intere ...

The synthesis and reactivity of uranium compounds supported by the tris-tert-butoxysiloxide ligand is surveyed. The multiple binding modes of the tert-butoxysiloxide ligand have proven very well suited to stabilize highly reactive homo- and heteropolymetal ...

We establish obstructions for groups to act by homeomorphisms on dendrites. For instance, lattices in higher rank simple Lie groups will always fix a point or a pair. The same holds for irreducible lattices in products of connected groups. Further results ...

We study the momentum-space 4-point correlation function of identical scalar operators in conformal field theory. Working specifically with null momenta, we show that its imaginary part admits an expansion in conformal blocks. The blocks are polynomials in ...
