Advanced antenna system (AAS) is a viable option for 5G millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. AAS single element is favored to be dual-polarized, wideband, high gain, and compact in order to be utilized for 5G antenna arrays. In this paper, a low complexi ...

Microphone arrays are central players in hands-free speech interface applications. The main duty of a microphone array is capturing distant-talking speech with high quality. A microphone array can acquire the desired speech signals selectively by leading t ...

In the majority of active sound absorbing systems, a conventional electrodynamic loudspeaker is used as a controlled source. However, particular situations may require an actuator that is more resistant to harsh environments, adjustable in shape, and light ...

A sound field on a line or in a plane has an effectively limited spatial bandwidth determined by the temporal frequency. Similar can be said for sound fields from far-field sources when analyzed on circular and spherical apertures. Namely, for a given freq ...

Earth-abundant and environmentally friendly semiconductors offer a promising path toward low-cost mass production of solar cells. A critical aspect in exploring new semiconducting materials and demonstrating their enhanced functionality consists in disenta ...

This paper discusses the implementation of a synthetic electrical admittance for controlling the dynamics of electroacoustic absorbers. Indeed, different basic control techniques are capable of varying the acoustic impedance of an electroacoustic transduce ...

The acoustics of a room often refer to the quality of the room in terms of sound recording as well as sound reproduction. At low frequencies, where the wavelengths are of the same order of magnitude with the dimensions of the room, due to the standing wave ...

A topology based on the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is presented, using two MMC linked by a medium frequency transformer. The back to back structure proves to have effective circuit breaker properties and reduced passive components. Due to the adopt ...

Acoustic echo control and noise suppression is an important part of any "handsfree" telecommunication system, such as telephony or audio or video conferencing systems. Bandwidth and computational complexity constraints have prevented that stereo or multi-c ...

Engineers dealing with noise reduction in habitations close to transportation traffic or indus-trial facilities encounter several problems to decrease noise level in rooms at low frequencies. Passive materials and current building construction knowledge en ...

In this paper, we address a beamforming application based on the capture of far-field speech data from a single speaker in a real meeting room. After the position of the speaker is estimated by a speaker tracking system, we construct a subband-domain beamf ...

This paper proposes a joint verification-localization structure based on split-band analysis of speech signal and the mixed voicing level. To address the problems in reverberant acoustic environments, a new fundamental frequency estimation algorithm is pro ...

Modern grids are facing a massive integration of power electronics devices, usually associated to instability issues. In order to assess the likelihood and severity of harmonic instability in the high frequency region, this work develops a multi-variable i ...

Smart antennas have been recently applied to improve the capacity and the performance of second generation wireless mobile communication systems. In general, smart antennas reduce the effects of multipath fading and improve the signal-to-noise-plus-interfe ...

Scaled microelectromechanical (MEMS) resonating devices have generated a great interest for their use in RF front-end architectures for wireless communication, channel-select filters, on-chip signal processing and timing and extreme mas sensing application ...

A method for presenting to a user of a wearable audio device a modified audio scene together with additional information related to the audio scene, comprising: capturing audio signals with a plurality of microphones; outputting an audio signal with a plur ...
