It is known that, when the immersed boundary method (IBM) is implemented within spectral-like methods, the Gibbs oscillation seriously deteriorates the calculation of derivatives near the body surface. In this paper, a radial basis function (RBF) based smo ...

A field experiment – the Snow Horizontal Array Turbulence Study (SnoHATS) – has been performed over an extensive glacier in Switzerland in order to study small-scale turbulence in the stable atmospheric surface layer, and to investigate the role, dynamics ...

We adapt an existing asymptotic method to set up a one-dimensional model for the fall of a closed filament in an in finite fluid in the Stokes regime. Starting from the single-layer integral representation of the fluid velocity around the filament, we get, ...

This thesis focuses on performance, reliability and degradation in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), which currently represent the three key technical challenges for the deployment of this technology. By its development of dedicated modeling and experimental ...

We apply the reduced basis method to solve Navier-Stokes equations in parametrized domains. Special attention is devoted to the treatment of the parametrized nonlinear transport term in the reduced basis framework, including the case of nonaffine parametri ...

In the last two decades, the level set method has been extensively used for the numerical solution of interface problems in different domains. The basic idea is to embed the interface as the level set of a regular function. In this paper we focus on the nu ...

We elaborate in this thesis the numerical simulation of the fluid-structure interaction by the spectral element method. To this end we consider the Navier-Stokes equations for a viscous Newtonian incompressible fluid with an elastic solid the movement of w ...

This paper presents a review of the mathematical models which can be adopted to describe the different physical phenomena characterizing the flow around a sailing yacht. The complete model accounting for laminar-turbulent transition regime, free-surface dy ...
