A measurement of the top quark pole mass m(t)(pole) in events where a top quarkantiquark pair (t (t) over bar) is produced in association with at least one additional jet ( t (t) over bar +jet) is presented. This analysis is performed using proton-proton c ...

A measurement of the jet mass distribution in hadronic decays of Lorentz-boosted top quarks is presented. The measurement is performed in the lepton + jets channel of top quark pair production (t (t) over bar) events, where the lepton is an electron or muo ...

Spillways are a requirement for dams’ safety, mainly preventing overtopping during floods. A common spillway solution involves plunging jets, which dissipate a considerable flow energy in the plunge pool. Energy dissipation has to occur in a controlled man ...

Measurement of the X-ray spectra of the He-like Ni ions (Ni26+) and their dielectronic satellites (Ni25+, Ni24+, and Ni23+) plays a crucial role in determination of electronic and ion temperature of plasma in the JET device. Because n >= 3 satellites of Ni ...

Development of needle-free methods to administer injectable therapeutics has been researched for a few decades. We focused our attention on a laser-based jet injection technique where the liquid-jet actuation mechanism is based on optical cavitation. This ...

Jet injection devices have been studied and developed for transdermal drug delivery to avoid the use of needles. Due to bulky actuation mechanisms, they are limited to body areas that are easy to reach such as skin. Here, we demonstrate a thin and long liq ...

The present paper focuses on the simulation of the high-velocity impact of a projectile impacting on a water-jet, causing the onset, development and collapse of cavitation. The simulation of the fluid motion is carried out using an explicit, compressible, ...

Calcium carbonate is a model system to investigate the mechanism of solid formation by precipitation from solutions, and it is often considered in the debated classical and nonclassical nucleation mechanism. Despite the great scientific relevance of calciu ...

Data on erosion and melting of beryllium upper limiter tiles, so-called dump plates (DP), are presented for all three campaigns in the JET tokamak with the ITER-like wall. High-resolution images of the upper wall of JET show clear signs of flash melting on ...

For the first time, the JET operation in deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasma, which is scheduled to take place on JET in 2020, will be performed in the ITER mix of plasma-facing component materials. In view of the preparation of the DT campaign (DTE2), several ...

Among hydrodynamically unstable flows, the amplifier-flows are characterized by their large amplification potential in presence of external noise. Since amplifiers do not have an intrinsic dynamics, a chosen forcing can be applied to eventually control the ...

Our reliance on fossil fuels, which is unsustainable due to dwindling reserves, has led to various environmental issues. Lignocellulosic biomass could serve as a renewable source of carbon and energy for the production of fuels and chemicals. While several ...

A method for generating a three-dimensional patterned soft structure, including the steps of providing a soft supporting substrate, providing a drop-on-demand system with a device for varying the velocity of the jetted droplets, providing a liquid ink, jet ...

The papers present three innovative solutions for fine sediment manage- ments in seasonal reservoirs, which are at different stages of maturity. Operational reservoir stirring using jet-like inflows may facilitate sediment routing, at no addi- tional cost ...

Tokamak operation with W PFCs is associated with specific challenges for impurity control, which may be particularly demanding in the transition from stationary H-mode to L-mode. To address W control issues in this phase, dedicated experiments have been pe ...

This paper focuses on the dynamics of fine sediments in reservoirs exposed to hydropower cascade or pumped-storage operations. The aim is at analysing the influence of parameters such as the flow inlet and flow outlet relative position, the jet hydrodynami ...

Cavitation bubbles are a topic of long-standing interest owing to the powerful phenomena associated with their collapse. Their unique ability to focus energy typically causes damage in hydraulic machinery (turbines, pumps, propellers, ...) but, if managed ...

Flow around a square cylinder controlled using plasma actuators (PAs) is numerically investigated by direct numerical simulation in order to clarify the most effective location of actuator installation and to elucidate the mechanism of control effect. The ...

Fast liquid jets, called micro-jets, are produced within cavitation bubbles experiencing an aspherical collapse. Here we review micro-jets of different origins, scales and appearances, and propose a unified framework to describe their dynamics by using an ...

The lack of knowledge regarding air entrainment caused by large jets in hydraulic structures, such as downstream Pelton turbines, has led EDF (Electricité de France) to carry out a test series to optimize the La Coche Power plant. The data extracted from t ...
