Implanted medical devices (IMDs) have been widely developed to support the monitoring and recording of biological data inside the body or brain. Wirelessly powered IMDs, a subset of implantable electronics, have been proposed to eliminate the limitations r ...

In the development of implantable bioelectronics, the establishment of efficient wireless RF links between implants and external nodes is crucial, providing substantial contributions to the advancement of medical diagnosis, therapies, and basic science. Im ...

Over the last decades, implantable neural interfaces have been extensively explored and effectively deployed to address neurological and mental health disorders. The existing solutions present several limitations. Firstly, the physical size of the implanta ...

Implantable bioelectronic devices predominantly use wireless links for communication and/or power transfer. When considering transmitting implanted antennas, electromagnetic radiation through biological media is highly attenuated, and previous work has sho ...

The integration of technology in the medical field has greatly improved accuracy in diagnoses, thus leading to more effective treatments. Wearable and implantable medical devices offer great potential for remote patient monitoring, particularly for heart f ...

This paper proposes a system to transfer both mW-power and Mbps-data over an inductive link using a single pair of coils. The system is able to handle a wide range of loads by implementing a load adapter block that divides the operation into two phases: a ...

Inductive power transfer technology is an attractive solution for medium voltage applications by eliminating the need for high voltage cables or wired connections in general. This paper introduces an inductive power transfer system which has multiple indep ...

We present a study of radio frequency properties of niobium films deposited on copper by two different approaches based on High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering, namely with a DC voltage biased substrate and with bipolar target voltage. Such approaches e ...

The wireless power transfer (WPT) efficiency to implanted bioelectronic devices is constrained by several frequency-dependent physical mechanisms. Recent works have developed several mathematical formulations to understand these mechanisms and predict the ...

Temporal modulation of components of electromagnetic systems provides an exceptional opportunity to engineer the response of those systems in a desired fashion, both in the time and frequency domains. For engineering time-modulated systems, one needs to th ...

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are neural prosthetics that enable closed-loop electrophysiology procedures. These devices are currently used in fundamental neurophysiology research, and they are moving toward clinical viability for neural rehabilitation. ...

The efficiency of an on-body wireless power transfer system for implant powering is defined by how the electromagnetic energy interacts with the lossy, heterogeneous, and dispersive body tissues. The objective of this study is to discuss the methodology an ...

Wireless power and data communication systems in implantable medical devices (IMDs) are developed to control and report acquired biological data from an implanted device to an external stage in several medical applications. Ultrasonic, capacitive, optical, ...

Design of medical sensor implants is very challenging due to numerous restrictions in terms of size and biological acceptability. In addition, large absorption and reflection of electromagnetic waves in body tissues significantly degrades the communication ...

Asset tracking involving accurate location and transportation data is highly suited to wireless sensor networks (WSNs) featuring battery-less nodes that can be deployed in virtually any environment and require little or no maintenance. In response to the g ...

In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are rapidly increasing in terms of relevance and pervasiveness thanks to their notable real-time monitoring performance across several fields, including industrial, domestic, military, bi ...

The convergence of materials science, electronics, and biology, namely bioelectronic interfaces, leads novel and precise communication with biological tissue, particularly with the nervous system. However, the translation of lab‐based innovation toward cli ...

Wireless communications are currently faced with two main challenges. The first challenge stems from the enormous number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices that transmit very small amounts of data. The second challenge is the need for ever-increasing data ...

This paper reports the results of two experimental campaigns aimed at studying the high-frequency response of a raceway containing low voltage power, telephone, and Ethernet cables, to external electromagnetic field illumination. The raceway was tested aga ...

Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) infrastructures are becoming more and more available and diffused. One major outcome is the development of new services that help to make everyday life easier and better. One of those to which thi ...
