Superconductive electronics is a promising candidate for supplementing or replacing existing CMOS VLSI systems. Rapid single-flux quantum (RSFQ) is one of the most advanced superconductive technologies operating at tens of gigahertz while reducing the oper ...

Optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) can only occur in noncentrosymmetric crystals in the leading electric-dipole approximation. Transition metal dichalcogenides with the 1T octahedral coordination is centrosymmetric, hence precluding SHG. Here we repo ...

Charge neutrality and their expected itinerant nature makes excitons potential transmitters of information. However, exciton mobility remains inaccessible to traditional optical experiments that only create and detect excitons with negligible momentum. Her ...

High-temperature superconductors (HTS) can be superconducting in liquid nitrogen (77 K) at atmospheric pressure, which holds immense promises for our future such as nuclear fusion, compact medical devices and efficient power applications. In a power system ...

We revisit charge density wave (CDW) behavior in the archetypal quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) material NbSe3 by high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements utilizing a microfocused laser with a photon energy of 6.3 eV. We pres ...

Almost all present High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) cable designs for magnets are based on twisted or transposed concepts that were developed for Low Temperature Superconducting (LTS) cables. However, requirements for LTS materials (like filament twi ...

Transition metal compounds represent a unique class of solids characterized by a surprising richness of physical properties. They display many phenomena and represent the main area of interest for the research on strongly correlated materials. Many novel i ...

The measurement of the actual thermal strain, epsilon th, in a cable in conduit conductor (CICC) of Nb3Sn is of paramount importance to predict the CICC performance in operation starting from the strand scaling laws for the critical current density J(c)(B, ...

We study vison excitations in a quantum dimer model interpolating between the Rokhsar-Kivelson models on the square and triangular lattices. In the square-lattice case, the model is known to be critical and characterized by U(1) topological quantum numbers ...

The magnetic structures adopted by the Fe and Sm sublattices in SmFeAsO have been investigated using element-specific x-ray resonant and nonresonant magnetic scattering techniques. Between 110 and 5 K, the Sm and Fe moments are aligned along the c and a di ...

Two full-size conductor samples using advanced Nb3Sn strands were tested in the SULTAN facility in 2005-2006 within (I,B,T) ranges close to the ITER operating conditions (B-MAX similar to 12 T, T similar to 5 K). Each sample includes two conductor legs, co ...

We present the results of a systematic study of the temperature-dependent resistivity and of T-c of a single crystal MgB2 sample as a function of point defect concentration. We have found linear, albeit weak, correlation between the decreasing superconduct ...

The contact resistance distribution among the current-carrying elements of three ITER conductor terminations is measured in the JORDI (JOint Resistance DIstribution) test facility at CRPP. One sample is based on Nb3Sn strands, the other two are NbTi cable- ...

We investigate the phase diagram of the t−J model on a triangular lattice using a variational Monte Carlo approach. We use an extended set of Gutzwiller projected fermionic trial wave functions allowing for simultaneous magnetic and superconducting order p ...
