The use of soft and compliant manipulators in marine environments represents a promising paradigm shift for subsea inspection, with devices better suited to tasks owing to their ability to safely conform to items during contact. However, limitations driven ...

The evolution of airborne mapping witnesses the introduction of hybrid lidar-camera systems to enhance data collection, i.e. to obtain simultaneously high-density point-cloud and texture. Yet, the common adjustment of both optical data streams is a nontriv ...

Ever since the advent of Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) the community of its users is expanding which led to a broad spectrum of applications. Most of these applications require AFM instruments with fast, accurate, and reliable performance. The sensors and ...

Online feedback optimization (OFO) enables optimal steady-state operations of a physical system by employing an iterative optimization algorithm as a dynamic feedback controller. When the plant consists of several interconnected subsystems, centralized imp ...

Glass has been the material of choice for making optical elements, in large part due to its intrinsic properties: a temperature-dependent viscosity, which enables shaping the material into a broad variety of functional and artistic glassware. Silica glass ...

Autonomous navigation of drones in environments with intermittently poor reception of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-observables remains a complex problem when using small, low-cost inertial sensors. Conventional kinematic frameworks, fusing Ine ...

. All rights reserved. Background: Wrist-worn inertial sensors are used in digital health for evaluating mobility in real-world environments. Preceding the estimation of spatiotemporal gait parameters within long-term recordings, gait detection is an import ...

Autonomous navigation of drones in environments with intermittently poor GNSS reception remains a complex problem with small and lightweight sensors. Conventional kinematic frameworks, fusing inertial sensors with satellite positioning, often falter under ...

The tokamak a configuration variable (TCV) continues to leverage its unique shaping capabilities, flexible heating systems and modern control system to address critical issues in preparation for ITER and a fusion power plant. For the 2019-20 campaign its c ...

Ozonation of secondary-treated wastewater for the abatement of micropollutants requires a reliable control of ozone doses. Changes in the UV absorbance of dissolved organic matter (DOM) during ozonation allow to estimate micropollutant abatement on-line an ...

The concept of a multi-source inverter (MSI) based on NPC topology was recently introduced for hybrid-electric powertrains to connect several dc sources to the traction load in a single conversion stage without magnetics. This work proposes a new modulatio ...

The emergence of Big Data has enabled new research perspectives in the discrete choice community. While the techniques to estimate Machine Learning models on a massive amount of data are well established, these have not yet been fully explored for the esti ...

Determining appropriate utility specifications for discrete choice models is time-consuming and prone to errors. With the availability of larger and larger datasets, as the number of possible specifications exponentially grows with the number of variables ...
